Joker Runs

On Saturday morning the boys went with Uncle Wade to a farm toy show in Des Moines. They really enjoyed that and each spent their own money to buy some toys. Later they set up farm in the basement, I love that they play farm.
Jayden took Joker to a weekend "Go For Broke" barrel race in Iowa Falls. She did not feel comfortable enough on her newest horse Queen, so left her home. She drove on half snow and ice covered roads to Iowa Falls and was fighting a bad head cold and a migraine. Mark and I tried to talk her into just going for one day, but Jayden is hard headed when it comes to her horses. She kept Joker at the equine center and stayed the night with Grandma and Grandpa in Williams. They both went and watched her run on Saturday and her Muench grandparents watched her Sunday. Saturday, Jayden ran a good solid run on Joker with a time of 15.12. She placed 15 out of 80, took home a 4th in the 2D check. On Sunday she ran Joker at a 14.99 with a couple wide barrels. We know he could have shaved a bit of time on his run. She got a really nice check winning the 2D.  It was exciting for Jayden to have such good runs and a good weekend. She works so hard and has been pretty discouraged with her horses lately. Queen is such a powerhouse and Jayden was having flashbacks of out of control runs with Astro. She was about in tears the other day feeling so frustrated and down about her barrel racing and rodeo. She loves it so and won't give up. This was the boost she needed. These boosts last a long time and drive her on even more. I like horses like Joker, Ace, and my Joe horse. They are good at running, yet level headed and a joy to ride.
I went Sunday to Levi's birthday party and then on to Jayden's barrel race. Levi turned 3 with a cute Construction theme party. Carina really gets into the decorations and theme. I got Levi a construction outfit and he got a battery operated Mack truck from his mom and dad. He sure has the toys!!
Our whole family went through phases of having the head cold. I got it over the weekend and Jayden was still pretty sick. It lasted into the week, head congestion and stuffy nose, head pressure. Jayden always gets a sinus infection so she was able to get antibiotics. I didn't take a thing all week and by Thursday I went to my doctor. Just as I expected she told me I have a cold virus and to give it time. Mark has had the head cold for a couple weeks. As soon as he gets a sniffle, he takes all kinds of over the counter meds, Dayquil, Nyquil, Tylenol, cough drops, Nasocort, nasal drops, Airborne, and Sudafed. I basically give it time and it goes away. That seems to be pretty common when men get sick. They are so much more dramatic and needy.  I dont like to take meds if I can help it.  He snored so loud like a freight train, I shared Jayden's bed for 4 nights. My voice makes me sound terrible, I am congested and my nose runs all day. It has been years since I have been sick. Blah!

Volleyball

Jake  went with Karen after school and to the field. My mom, Luke and I went to Jayden’s  Volleyball game in Coon Rapids.  They played 4 games all losses. They were not having a good serving night and that really hurt them.  Still enjoy watching them learn.

Treasures

In the morning we took 3 of our 4 cats to the vet for shots. The 4 th cat decided to wander this morning missing his appointment. On our way out, we passed a rummage sale and stopped. We got some major treasures for next to nothing. The church ladies were so fascinated with Jacob's interest in old radios and televisions. They just adored him and marked the prices way down and gave him some for free. We loaded up on kids books, got some board games, and a few other treasures. Jake ended up with a mini  television , an old radio and Polaroid camera. After lunch the boys went straight to the field. My friend Carolyn and her daughter Tabby came to ride horses. What started out to be a chilly day 45, turned out nice and sunny. We had coats on, but it was a great day to ride. We rode through our hay patch and along the waterway near the highway. It was a great way to spend the afternoon.

Dayton Fun Show

It has been cold and windy for the past week, highs of 45. Today the sun was shinning and it got up to 60. There was one final horse show for the season at the Dayton arena. We took Jayden and Jacob while Luke went with Grammer and Po and was supposed to come later. It was a fun show geared for practice and the kids. Jake did really well on Winnie, he rode in walk and trot, barrels, and poles. He did some loping. Jayden did pleasure, milk can, barrels, poles, and a jumping event. Her horse Tex really jumps high for the jump event. Down in the arena, there was'nt any wind and the sun came out. It made for a nice day.
