Fall Break

Jayden got a college fall break October 17th through the 20th. She left Oklahoma, riding with her friend Alex, at noon on Wednesday and made it to Ames by 10PM where I was able to pick her up after the boys church group. The timing couldn't have been better. I waited less than 5 minutes. It was so good to see her and give her big hugs. How I miss my girl!!. Alex lives in Madrid, so it was wonderful the girls could travel together. We talked with Jayden all the way home asking her tons of questions. Mark greeted her after being in the field all day and half sick from all the grain dust. He gets so sick every year when he gets in all the dust. He went to bed while the rest of us stayed up till midnight talking and letting Jayden curl up with her favorite cat CoCo.

Thursday morning started with the arrival of my new refrigerator. The old one is over 20 years, still working, just had many problems. From there I took Jayden to her doctor appointment with an ENT.. It was suggested by her regular doctor that she get her tonsils out. After much discussion with the ENT we determined it may be best to wait. Most of Jayden's throat problems have been viral related.
Grandma Mawgee met us in Ames and went for lunch. Jayden had her pick of all the places in Ames and chose El Azteca. In Alva there are very few eating options, but they have 3 Mexican restaurants. I figured that would be the last things she would want. El Azteca mexican food was what we ate. Next we went thrifting, Jayden's choice. She would rather shop at thrift stores than the mall. She has become very frugal with her money as she is having to spend more of her own. She finds it hard to pay full price for clothing. That is a good thing. We went to the Loft where all three of us found many things from clothes to shoes. Jayden had a few crazy spiked heels she showed off her heel walking ability in. I found the cutest sweatshirt I insisted Jayden have saying' "Just a small town girl living her dreams" and it had the state of Iowa on it. She wore it for a photo. Next we headed to the mall where Jayden and I went to a salon and got hair cuts. Finally we headed home with only a few minutes before Jayden left for a sibling night out. She wanted to spend her time with siblings bowling. She took the boys and met ALi and Blake in Fort DOdge for a little bonding time. They went bowling and had pizza.
Friday we took Jayden up to tour the "Fancy House", which I have renamed as it was formerly called "Aunt Betty's."  Next, she went with the boys to have a home cooked meal by Grammer. One of Jayden's main requests while home was some of Grammer's good cookin. In the afternoon Jayden rode in the field with her dad making rounds in the semi. We finished up beans in the morning and started right in on corn.
Mark and I rode horses on a nice fall day out in the field with Jayden. I had a cat that wanted to go along so I gave him a ride for awhile on the saddle. We have such silly cats. We also spent time in the arena roping, another family activity.
She also went out for supper at 209 Main in Paton with both grandparents. We packed so much in the few days she came home and she realized how much she is missed. It was hard to see her go back, but I have secret plans to maybe go out for her rodeo and birthday in just a couple weeks. If I continue to see her regularly, it isn't as hard being so far away.

Volleyball

Jake  went with Karen after school and to the field. My mom, Luke and I went to Jayden’s  Volleyball game in Coon Rapids.  They played 4 games all losses. They were not having a good serving night and that really hurt them.  Still enjoy watching them learn.

Treasures

In the morning we took 3 of our 4 cats to the vet for shots. The 4 th cat decided to wander this morning missing his appointment. On our way out, we passed a rummage sale and stopped. We got some major treasures for next to nothing. The church ladies were so fascinated with Jacob's interest in old radios and televisions. They just adored him and marked the prices way down and gave him some for free. We loaded up on kids books, got some board games, and a few other treasures. Jake ended up with a mini  television , an old radio and Polaroid camera. After lunch the boys went straight to the field. My friend Carolyn and her daughter Tabby came to ride horses. What started out to be a chilly day 45, turned out nice and sunny. We had coats on, but it was a great day to ride. We rode through our hay patch and along the waterway near the highway. It was a great way to spend the afternoon.

Dayton Fun Show

It has been cold and windy for the past week, highs of 45. Today the sun was shinning and it got up to 60. There was one final horse show for the season at the Dayton arena. We took Jayden and Jacob while Luke went with Grammer and Po and was supposed to come later. It was a fun show geared for practice and the kids. Jake did really well on Winnie, he rode in walk and trot, barrels, and poles. He did some loping. Jayden did pleasure, milk can, barrels, poles, and a jumping event. Her horse Tex really jumps high for the jump event. Down in the arena, there was'nt any wind and the sun came out. It made for a nice day.
