Week of Sept 15

Luke started back into taekwondo, I try to get him there twice a week, which means three trips to Ames. Tuesday and Thursday taekwondo class is from 6:45-7:30. Also guitar lessons at 3:30 on Thursday and youth group on Wednesdays from 6:30-9:30. It makes for a lot of driving. I hope someday the boys will appreciate how much time and effort I put in getting them places.  I sure wish we lived closer to Ames. Mark is very encouraging of Luke starting taekwondo again after his 6 month break. When he is not in a sport or activity he is a couch potato and spends too much time in front of a screen, either television or computer.  It is great for him physically and he is very good at it! I often wonder what he would be like if he lived close and could practice 4 nights a week like the other kids and went year round.  Luke isn't real excited about starting back in taekwondo. I wish he had a hobby he was passionate about and not one we have to keep pushing him to do. Both takewondo and guitar are things he will do, but doesn't love.
Friday, I made yet another trip to Ames to take Luke to the church for a lock-in. 12 hours of fun and games and no sleep with 6th through 8th graders. It sounded like a miserable time to me, but Luke loved it.
Saturday morning at 8AM,  Mark picked up Luke who had not slept a wink. He was beyond tired, fell asleep in the car, and slept all day. That night we went out for dinner with Mark's friends, the Pennington's.
This year my parents celebrated their 51st anniversary. They took a nice anniversary photo together. They love to spend time with their grandkids and are such a big part of our lives. They enjoy seeing our kids and spending time with them. The kids like to stay with their Grandparents throughout the year on random weekends. My parents have always attended the kids activities whether they are at a steamy hot county fair or a windy rainy soccer game. They are their biggest fans in any activity they try. They are super supportive, loving, and such a blessing.

Volleyball

Jake  went with Karen after school and to the field. My mom, Luke and I went to Jayden’s  Volleyball game in Coon Rapids.  They played 4 games all losses. They were not having a good serving night and that really hurt them.  Still enjoy watching them learn.

Treasures

In the morning we took 3 of our 4 cats to the vet for shots. The 4 th cat decided to wander this morning missing his appointment. On our way out, we passed a rummage sale and stopped. We got some major treasures for next to nothing. The church ladies were so fascinated with Jacob's interest in old radios and televisions. They just adored him and marked the prices way down and gave him some for free. We loaded up on kids books, got some board games, and a few other treasures. Jake ended up with a mini  television , an old radio and Polaroid camera. After lunch the boys went straight to the field. My friend Carolyn and her daughter Tabby came to ride horses. What started out to be a chilly day 45, turned out nice and sunny. We had coats on, but it was a great day to ride. We rode through our hay patch and along the waterway near the highway. It was a great way to spend the afternoon.

Dayton Fun Show

It has been cold and windy for the past week, highs of 45. Today the sun was shinning and it got up to 60. There was one final horse show for the season at the Dayton arena. We took Jayden and Jacob while Luke went with Grammer and Po and was supposed to come later. It was a fun show geared for practice and the kids. Jake did really well on Winnie, he rode in walk and trot, barrels, and poles. He did some loping. Jayden did pleasure, milk can, barrels, poles, and a jumping event. Her horse Tex really jumps high for the jump event. Down in the arena, there was'nt any wind and the sun came out. It made for a nice day.
