Around the second week, Jayden's horse pens flooded. Her poor horses were standing in water up their knees. Luckily she was able to get them moved right away and took them to the fairgrounds. She has been trailering her horses there each time she rides, so it was handier anyway. Most of the rodeo team boards their horses there too. She decided it would be a permanent move and after a week, the home pen flooded again.. It seemed so handy to have her horses in her backyard, but in the ned we moved them anyhow.
We left Friday for Oklahoma to see our Jayden. It was the perfect opportunity to go. She wanted her horse Joker and we were able to haul him. Mark wasn't in the field because the crops are going to be late this year, and it was NWOSU parents weekend. Mark and I took the trip just the two of us and took the blue Ford. We hauled Joker out and took turns driving. We got in and settled into our hotel. We took Jayden out to eat at the favorite bbq place and watched her ride Joker in the evening. I am not sure who Jayden was more excited to see, us or her horse. She loves her horses, and yes she was excited to see us too.
Saturday we wanted to take Jayden to eat somewhere out of the ordinary. There are very few options in ALva, so we drove outside of town to the next place, an hour west. We found a cute little italian restauarant and had a great meal. We also found a museum to walk through. We also got see more of the countryside and terrain, a pretty drive.
Back in Alva we went to the supper and football game for the parents weekend. They had burgers for us. The football game reminded me of a high schhol game after just recently attending an ISU game. The band was unimpressive and the flag drill team was dreadful. The timing was off and most of the girls had dyed colored hair and wore strange make-up. They did not have the eloquence and expertise so awesome to watch at ISU. The football team wasnt the best either, most of the team seemed small. Jayden pointed out one player she knew, Shark. He was a running back and gave us somebody to watch. It was a nice day and it gave us something to do for entertainment.
I am thankful Jayden and Alex have become freinds. They hang out a lot and have fun together. On Sunday morning we picked Alex up and all went to church, the church that Jayden felt would be her church. It was a baptist church that has a college ministry. They feed the kids once a week on campus. It was a nice church with a good message. As God always intertwines people, we noticed Kyle and Teddi were also at the church. They are the roping family Jayden met her first day in Alva. They have a cute story, neither were from OK, however met while in college in Alva and eventually married and settled back in. After Jayden met Teddi, she offered to be there for her if she needed anything. She was also taking a few roping lessons from Teddi when she had time. She didn't want to be paid, so today we bought her families lunch. Such a great family and a blessing to have someone in the area Jayden has gotten to know. They invited us to join them for lunch, and so we went out to eat at El Maya, the Mexican restaurant. It was fun chatting and getting to know them. They are very kind and a hard working competitive rodeo family. They were getting ready for the circuit finals for the region and Kansas circuit. She does breakaway and he calf ropes. Kylee is 6 or 7, so adorable and has won many saddles and buckles already.
After hugs and goodbyes, we were on the road again. We took a new route and actually ended up on miles of gravel. Hmmm. We decided to see the Eisenhower museum in Abilene, Kansas. It made for an additional night stay, but this was the little vacation before harvest. The museum was worth the stop. There was so much to see, you could have stayed for hours. Mark, being a history fan really enjoyed it.
