Carson King

Carson King was just an ordinary guy who has been in the news daily for the past two weeks and has turned famous. He is  the man who raised nearly $3 million for children's charity after asking for beer money on television and was later called out for old tweets, is still getting a day and a beer named after him in his home state of Iowa. Taken from an online article: King, 24, made headlines earlier this month when he went on a taping of ESPN's "College Gameday" at Iowa State University asking people to send him money for beer. His sign read, “Busch Light supply needs replenished" and included information on how to send him money through Venmo, the popular money transfer app. King ended up receiving hundreds of thousands of dollars he decided to donate to the University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital. Soon after, Busch Light decided to match the donation — and said they would send King a year's supply of beer with his face on the can. But a

Rocking J Photo Shoot

Jayden lined up a photo shoot with some of her college rodeo freinds and teammates. She had her good freind Brody use his photography skills and they got some great photos to promote Rocking J. IT looks to me like they had fun too.

NWOSU Parents Weekend

Around the second week, Jayden's horse pens flooded. Her poor horses were standing in water up their knees. Luckily she was able to get them moved right away and took them to the fairgrounds. She has been trailering her horses there each time she rides, so it was handier anyway. Most of the rodeo team boards their horses there too. She decided it would be a permanent move and after a week, the home pen flooded again.. It seemed so handy to have her horses in her backyard, but in the ned we moved them anyhow. We left Friday for Oklahoma to see our Jayden. It was the perfect opportunity to go. She wanted her horse Joker and we were able to haul him. Mark wasn't in the field because the crops are going to be late this year, and it was NWOSU parents weekend. Mark and I took the trip just the two of us and took the blue Ford. We hauled Joker out and took turns driving. We got in and settled into our hotel. We took Jayden out to eat at the favorite bbq place and watched her ride Jok

Week of Sept 15

Luke started back into taekwondo, I try to get him there twice a week, which means three trips to Ames. Tuesday and Thursday taekwondo class is from 6:45-7:30. Also guitar lessons at 3:30 on Thursday and youth group on Wednesdays from 6:30-9:30. It makes for a lot of driving. I hope someday the boys will appreciate how much time and effort I put in getting them places.  I sure wish we lived closer to Ames. Mark is very encouraging of Luke starting taekwondo again after his 6 month break. When he is not in a sport or activity he is a couch potato and spends too much time in front of a screen, either television or computer.  It is great for him physically and he is very good at it! I often wonder what he would be like if he lived close and could practice 4 nights a week like the other kids and went year round.  Luke isn't real excited about starting back in taekwondo. I wish he had a hobby he was passionate about and not one we have to keep pushing him to do. Both takewondo and guita

Landscaping

We did some serious rennovating with our ladscaping around the house. It had been 4 years since we first talked about making changes. We had ideas of a sunroom and addition to the north entrance. Blueprints were made and contractors contacted, but we never moved forward. Finally we decided to just change up the landscape around the house. We dug out trees and shrubs, and had a landscaper give us a much needed upgrade. Here are some of the before and during photos. I also had the boys help me repaint the propane tank. Our yard has looked terrible every since we removed some large tress in the backyard and with pet traffic. When the grass is reseeded and this project is complete, it should look so much better.

Week of September 9

The weather had been cool and fall like, however this week it warmed up and got humid. By Wednesday and Thursday we got some thunderstorms and heavy rain, two inches.  Because things had been so dry, that was more rain than we have gotten since July combined. The boys are enjoying their Wednesday night youth groups and look forward to going. Luke’s been taking guitar lessons on Thursdays. He doesn't like to get his guitar out and practice. If I didn't hound him to practice he never would. Jake is really enjoying his school classes. He drives his truck to school at 12:30 and gets back at 3. Some days he even stays longer to help in the shop. He has gotten to know and like his classmates and teacher. It is nice to have something he can do everyday and looks forward to it. He likes to keep himself busy. I think one of his favorite things is driving either his old Chevy or the old Ford. He thinks its great to see so many other old trucks at his school too. The boys still crave th

Friends

We invited our good friends, the Buhr's to come and visit. They came on Saturday and spent the night. With Jayden off to college we had the perfect room for them to stay. They brought both girls, Lizzy and Abigail. Luke got to help Abigail doctor up Pooh bear. She is at an adorable age. Becasue it was rainy, we didnt get to spend much time outside like we hoped. We did saddle a horse and gave some rides to the girls in the arean. We grilled steaks and had a nice dinner. Abigail was upset she didn't get to say the supper prayer and did some some screaming until she could fall asleep. Oh those toddler years. Sunday morning I fixed Swedish pancakes for our guests, and we went to church at Cornerstone in Ames. One thing I have always loved about Cornerstone is their desire for others to know Jesus and to share that with the next generation through college students. In starting with a group of 8 families and growing the church into what it is today has been a phenomenal journey. T
