Boys And Dating

Thankfully Jayden and I share a close relationship and she is open with me and talks to me about most everything, even boys and dating. Last fall she had a boy interested in her and they were messaging. He wanted to get to know her and vice versa before they actually went on a date. So, they decided to go for a truck drive. That seemed not the greatest idea to me. They got in his truck and drove to Perry and back,  an hour each way. Of course she didn't tell me until after the fact, and I was a little freaked out and had a long talk about safety and how bad that idea seemed! She said she never felt unsafe and knew the people that knew the guy, however they really didn't hit it off. They didn't share the same interests and didn't have the same humor. She found him to be kind of dull and boring. She told me his name and since it was a Webster City guy, who was a state wrestling champion and attended University of Iowa for his first year in football. Ok, those are pretty big deals! Did I mention he was like 6'2 I can appreciate his wrestling accomplishment. In the state of Iowa, making it to the state tournament is a huge deal, to win it is extraordinary and you become your school's hero, somewhat of a celerity in your hometown. I am sure she was the first girl he got to know that didnt make a huge fuss over of him. They stayed in touch and she watched a movie at his dorm once, went to pick up a sandwich together, and that was about the extent of that. He never took her on a date. She told me she ended it because just didn't have a good vibe. Oh this girl is going to be a hard catch. Later, the beginning of second semester, an ISu football player linebacker, found her on a comparability website. They talked and he asked her to get together. He was concerned that his roommate who happened to be Brock Purdy would steal her away! Brock is  the #1 star football player at ISu and has become quite the celebrity around Ames and pretty much the state of Iowa. That was way cool!
Once again, she told me she was going to drive to this guy named Joey's place and meet him. The entire time she was there I was so nervous. This guy was a complete stranger, she was driving off campus to see him, and he was a big giant football player. So many things went through my mind. Did I mention he is 6 foot 7 linebacker? We again have had more talks about safety.  I told Jayden to ask the football player to our church Salt and maybe Brock would go too.  This guy was a big time NCAA ISU top pick from Arizona as well. It will be fun to see him play next year. He was red shirted as a freshmen. Even though the two guys have a full ride and a furnished apartment,  they bought a very nice modern house out on the south side. The first impression Jayden said Joey was fun and funny and she enjoyed talking with him and they watched a movie. He told her he wanted to take her on a real date. She again drove to his place where they took his truck and he took her through the drive thru of Jimmy John's. What!? A date? Ok first he should pick her up, second he should have taken her someplace to sit and eat in, and third maybe a decent place. He even told her she didn't need to order chips or a drink because he had that at his place. These boys need to learn some lessons on how to be a gentlemen. Jayden had her first date and it was a disappointment. This modern dating business is for the dogs. Back at his place they ate and played some pool. Jayden got to meet Brock too.
Jayden learned a lot about the life of a football player. They have basically devoted the next four years of their lives to football, eat, sleep, and breathe it! They are up and at workouts by 5AM. They have a tracking system on their phones making sure they never miss class. They eat all meals together at a certain athlete location. They have workouts and practice until 9PM. Basically they dont want them to have a life outside of football. Jayden was the first girl they had seen since the season got over. Ok that didn't make me feel a whole lot better. Joey and Brock already came into ISU as top picks. Brock had a phenomenal year and neither of them can go anywhere without being spotted by crazed fans. I think that would make life so hard. They have to hide out, go places to get groceries late at night. They wear hoodies, baseball caps and try to keep a low profile.
Jayden liked Joey's truck, but not his driving. He loved to drift and does it all the time for fun. She got to experience his crazy speedy drifting. After the so called date, Jayden realized she didn't really have much interest in the guy and they slowly communicated less and less and casually let it end. I am still in awe that she met Brock and was in his house! Ok maybe I am being a star struck fan. That kid is going to be one to watch, no doubt. And he is adorable, solid in his faith, and just a good guy who wants to be just like Tim Tebow.
After that there were a few boys that messaged Jayden and she would see at rodeos. One boy she met at a Block and Bridle social (that is what they called it in my day too, it is code for party, can't fool this mom).  He apparently saw her and got her name and number and later contacted her. He strung her along for a long time, but never even went on a date. He was an ISU graduate age 24, has 3 jobs and was big into show cattle and hogs. Jayden went with him one day to haul a hog and some feed. She rode with him in his awesome truck, as she called it. They talked the whole trip and got to know a little about each other. He kept telling her he wanted to take her out on a date, hang out together, bring her some free bags of horse feed and on and on. He made a lot of plans only to break them and spent more time hanging out with the guys. She kept getting her hopes up only to be let down and finally had enough. So, that is how her dating life has been, no dates, just a lot of guys that talk about it. Ugh!
I know her Mr. Right is out there. I have prayed for her future spouse for a long time. I know he will be something worth waiting for , just like she is worth waiting for.

Volleyball

Jake  went with Karen after school and to the field. My mom, Luke and I went to Jayden’s  Volleyball game in Coon Rapids.  They played 4 games all losses. They were not having a good serving night and that really hurt them.  Still enjoy watching them learn.

Treasures

In the morning we took 3 of our 4 cats to the vet for shots. The 4 th cat decided to wander this morning missing his appointment. On our way out, we passed a rummage sale and stopped. We got some major treasures for next to nothing. The church ladies were so fascinated with Jacob's interest in old radios and televisions. They just adored him and marked the prices way down and gave him some for free. We loaded up on kids books, got some board games, and a few other treasures. Jake ended up with a mini  television , an old radio and Polaroid camera. After lunch the boys went straight to the field. My friend Carolyn and her daughter Tabby came to ride horses. What started out to be a chilly day 45, turned out nice and sunny. We had coats on, but it was a great day to ride. We rode through our hay patch and along the waterway near the highway. It was a great way to spend the afternoon.

Dayton Fun Show

It has been cold and windy for the past week, highs of 45. Today the sun was shinning and it got up to 60. There was one final horse show for the season at the Dayton arena. We took Jayden and Jacob while Luke went with Grammer and Po and was supposed to come later. It was a fun show geared for practice and the kids. Jake did really well on Winnie, he rode in walk and trot, barrels, and poles. He did some loping. Jayden did pleasure, milk can, barrels, poles, and a jumping event. Her horse Tex really jumps high for the jump event. Down in the arena, there was'nt any wind and the sun came out. It made for a nice day.
