On May 14, I had my 10th Krav class, which meant I had to pass my first test. We had a large group for class that night, 13 all together. I am really enjoying the class and so is Jayden. She wasn't so sure at first, but has grown to love it. I really enjoy the mother daughter time and also a great work out. I feel my muscles getting stronger and my body getting in better shape. Things that hurt and made me sore at first, aren't bothering me at all. The other day, Jayden looked at me and said, "Wow mom you've got some big gins!" She had me show them off to her and we decided to take a picture in the mirror of the two of us. I figured I better get some pictures now because I may never be this fit again. It does feel pretty good to be 43 and in better shape than I have probably been in for 20 years. I also like the fact that the class is self defense not only for myself but also for Jayden. It makes her more aware of her surroundings and prepares you in a position of attack. She will know how to defend herself and hopefully fight off an attacker or put a guy in his place if needed. Ha. I enjoy the class and hope to continue. It would be so awesome if we could continue when she goes off to college. I would love that! Summer would be miserable up on the second floor in that hot little so called gym without an air conditioner. We are already feeling the heat and its only May. That and the heat radiating off the hot sweaty people. There is a lot of physical contact in Krav, which means a lot of exchanging sweat, ew, I do not enjoy that part at all.
Tonight I did my test. 1 solid minute per pad per defensive movement. There were 5 people holding a pad and for 5 minutes without a break, you go and go. Front kick, back kick, front punch, hammer fist, elbow strike, and knee kick. I went at it hard and could hear all the class cheering me on. By the end, I was out of breath, sweaty, and exhausted. I did it! I could tell when we left that both Jayden and Luke were very impressed. I think I kind of surprised them and maybe even myself. It is a neat when your kids look up to you for something you accompish with them. Luke continues to accelerate in his taekwondo and is learning self defense tactics too.
Next it is Jaydens turn to take her test in a week.
Leaving Krav that night, still in my workout shorts, I had to run into a store. As I was standing there a younger lady (20's) told me I have very nice legs. I laughed. She told me "I know that sounds weird, but you really do." That made me feel great!
