Horsemanship

A year ago Jayden went to a Cody Keller horsemanship clinic and really enjoyed it. She has stayed in contact with the clinician and asked him questions over the year. She has been anxious to attend another one of his clinics. She signed up for a 4 day clinic, but could only go for 2 of the days due to her graduation. She was sad to miss out on the whole time, but happy to get to go. She had two horses she wanted to take with loads of questions to ask. She took her young horse Summer just turned 3 and her big bay gelding who just turned 5. She took the big Bloomer all by herself and drove down to Osceola and stayed for the clinic. When you really think about all that entails, it is dedication. She packs the trailer with all she needs for herself and horses, hay, feed, buckets, tack. She loads two horses and hauls over 2 hours to a place she has never been. She has to back and turn into a tight area in the driveway and set up her trailer for the night. She unloads horses, tacks up, rides all day and stays for two full days before heading back home. All of this on her own. Here she was a young 18 year old at a clinic with a group of much older trail riders and horse men and women. She had no idea what to expect and was rather surprised. She told of one lady that hadn't ridden a horse in a couple years and was so short and round, they couldn't get her on her horse without  having to climb her up a fence. I cannot imagine showing up at a clinic and not have been on your horse in years! I am sure they were quite impressed with her. She came home with many stories and said her young horses were already some of the most well behaved. The other horses spooked at flags that her horses didn't really flinch at. She could do a lot of the advanced riding, spinning, side passing, flexing , etc. She learned so much at the clinic and had a good experience. The clinician puts on clinics among his organized chaos. That kind of thing drives me crazy, but doesn't bother Jayden at all. In the end she came home with more horse knowledge and saw big improvements and will keep making progress.

Volleyball

Jake  went with Karen after school and to the field. My mom, Luke and I went to Jayden’s  Volleyball game in Coon Rapids.  They played 4 games all losses. They were not having a good serving night and that really hurt them.  Still enjoy watching them learn.

Treasures

In the morning we took 3 of our 4 cats to the vet for shots. The 4 th cat decided to wander this morning missing his appointment. On our way out, we passed a rummage sale and stopped. We got some major treasures for next to nothing. The church ladies were so fascinated with Jacob's interest in old radios and televisions. They just adored him and marked the prices way down and gave him some for free. We loaded up on kids books, got some board games, and a few other treasures. Jake ended up with a mini  television , an old radio and Polaroid camera. After lunch the boys went straight to the field. My friend Carolyn and her daughter Tabby came to ride horses. What started out to be a chilly day 45, turned out nice and sunny. We had coats on, but it was a great day to ride. We rode through our hay patch and along the waterway near the highway. It was a great way to spend the afternoon.

Dayton Fun Show

It has been cold and windy for the past week, highs of 45. Today the sun was shinning and it got up to 60. There was one final horse show for the season at the Dayton arena. We took Jayden and Jacob while Luke went with Grammer and Po and was supposed to come later. It was a fun show geared for practice and the kids. Jake did really well on Winnie, he rode in walk and trot, barrels, and poles. He did some loping. Jayden did pleasure, milk can, barrels, poles, and a jumping event. Her horse Tex really jumps high for the jump event. Down in the arena, there was'nt any wind and the sun came out. It made for a nice day.
