Tues April 4th was like a winter snow storm. New snowfall and 45 mph wind and dropping temperatures into the teens.
April 12-14 Once again we are dealing with SNOW! The weekend ended with a sunny warm Thursday high into the 60's, then Friday falling temps and thunderstorms. Saturday it was a winter storm with early rain, sleet, then snowfall. Big white blowing flakes of snow. It was a heavy snow that covered and the temps were in the 30's. We keep thinking, "this is the last snow". I don't know how many times I have packed away the snow gear just to bring it out again. This time of year is so hard on the cattle ranchers in the Dakotas. Calving season is in full force and lots of babies aren't going to make it in this weather. The map of weather alerts on April 14 was all over the place. i have never seen so much variation going on over the state. It was a little bit of everything!!
On Sunday morning the roads were covered in an icy snow mixture and many churches were cancelled. This sure doesn't feel much like spring.
Krav Maga-On Monday, Jayden and I decided to sign up for the Krav Maga self defense combat workout class. It is something I have been wanting to do for awhile to get in shape and I like self defense classes. I also wanted Jayden to learn some self defense in hopes that it will help her to be aware and prepared in college. She was reluctant and finally came to me and said lets do it. The class was 7-7:40 after Luke's taekwondo 6-6:30, so the timing is good. We went into the class prepared for hard core exercise and anticipating being very sore. I knew how out of shape I was and was ready for the worst. It wasn't bad and it is the level I can enjoy. It is a good cardio workout, but not so much so that I am out of breath or muscles are burning. The first class i had to do lots of push ups so my pecs were so sore and by the second class I could barely do one. Jayden said her abdominal muscles hurt her the most and that made her really sore. it is interesting how different our areas of soreness were. There were a dozen people in the class. Jayden is the youngest and I am the second oldest. The majority of the class is in their 20's. They are a friendly outgoing bunch and I really enjoy being part of the group. The class is a mix of punches, kicks, and self defense moves. I think we will enjoy it and hope we can stick with it for the long haul. I would love it if Jayden and I could continue this during college. The driving and time it takes out of an evening are tough. I am not sure how this will work long term. I am not sure how I will feed Mark and especially when he is in the field. The first two classes we coordinated our classes with Mark's chiropractor appointment and out whole family went. It was s bit of time management. He would drop us off downtown, go to his chiropractor, on Wed he then took Jake to youth group. Jayden and I ate at Cafe Diem one night while Luke was in taekwondo. At 7, Jayden and I are in class and Mark picked up Luke and they went to eat. At the end of class, they picked us up and we went out to church and picked up Jake. Mark was not enjoying playing taxi like I do every week. It works, but it isn't too handy. Once again we always say how nice it would be to have a house in Ames.
Thursday was warm, we got up into 60 degrees. Going outside with a jacket on was a nice change. It was warm enough that Luke and I gave Eagle a bath. Luke has been riding Eagle lately and starting to bond with the horse. He has been enjoying it and even asks to ride. I was kind of shocked. In the evening we had a 4H horse meeting and Luke was all set to go. Eagle was caked in mud, so his bath took at least an hour. He got pretty impatient toward the end. I am guessing the ice cold water didn't feel the best either. by the end he was almost clean and so much better. While I was outside I scrubbed and washed several horse blankets. By the time I went inside my back was aching bad. Then we grabbed a quick bite to eat, loaded horses and headed to 4H. This was the first time we hauled three horses and three kids. This was the first time all three kids were on a horse outside of home. Jayden rode Joker, Jake rode Traveler, and Luke rode Eagle. They had a good night on their horses.
Saturday Wedding- The roads were bad and the snow was still falling so we were unable to make Alivia's 11th birthday party. By evening we were able to go to a wedding reception in Jefferson. Tucker and Katie King were married and had a beautiful reception. Most of the guests were rodeo/ horse people, so we knew quite. We talked and did a little dancing. Mark and I danced a couple songs and Mark danced a song with Jayden. She had her friends there, but Jake didn't have anyone. It was a long night for him and he was very bored. Luke had gone to grandparents. We left before things got to crazy, but it was a fun wedding party.
April 18 MORE SNOW!!! In the wee hours of the morning, we heard ice hitting the windows. It was peanut sized ice pellets. Then the snow started. Schools in the area were cancelled and the roads were bad. It snowed several inches in some parts of the state 6-8 inches.
