Rolling In The New Year 2018

BITTER COLD & Sick to start to the year...
January didn't roll in with sunshine and good health. In fact half of our family was still sick, fighting off colds and on antibiotics. I decided I didn't need antibiotics and tried to tough it out. All I had was  a head cold. In the mornings I would cough and other than that felt fine, but it just lingered on and on. So did the cold temperatures. The temps stayed low and in the negatives for the first week in January. The wind chills got down to -30's. It was just bitter. It was so cold we let Daisy in the garage. That didn't seem enough, she was shivering, so I put a heating pad under her and covered her in a blanket. I did this for several days. She is too old for this kind of cold. I know she appreciated it and felt a bit pampered. Tuff and the cats would help keep her warm too.  The 7th  of January, we finally got our heat wave and it felt so refreshing to be outside. It go up to 38 degrees!! Praise the Lord for a break in the bitter cold. In Iowa we rejoice in warmer weather like this.We managed a few days up in the 30's and then it dropped back down again. January 11th we had our first winter snow storm. It was small and mild. We didn't get much snow, but the wind was viscous and bitterly cold, schools and activities were cancelled...except when youre  homeschooled.

Horse Road Trip To Oklahoma, 1 of 2...
January 4th, Mark Jake and Jayden took a road trip to Oklahoma with Ace. Luke and I stayed home. The trip was to take Ace to a barrel horse trainer to 1)see if he would be sound enough to run, 2)could do some training, 3) give Jayden some lessons, and 4)see if Ace can improve running barrels. I stayed home in the cold and did chores in the cold.  While home, Luke and I went Thursday to get hair cuts and went to takedwondo. Friday I took him to see the movie Ferdinand along with my parents, what a cute movie.
Baby Boy Birthday... We celebrated Levi's 1st birthday. I took the kids Saturday morning to Wade and Carina's for their little party/. Everything was decorated so fun and cute with wolverine, lumberjack, grizzly bear decor. Levi is such a cutie and he is already a year old. It was fun to see him dig into his birthday cake and play in the sink afterwards for his hand washing.

Volleyball

Jake  went with Karen after school and to the field. My mom, Luke and I went to Jayden’s  Volleyball game in Coon Rapids.  They played 4 games all losses. They were not having a good serving night and that really hurt them.  Still enjoy watching them learn.

Treasures

In the morning we took 3 of our 4 cats to the vet for shots. The 4 th cat decided to wander this morning missing his appointment. On our way out, we passed a rummage sale and stopped. We got some major treasures for next to nothing. The church ladies were so fascinated with Jacob's interest in old radios and televisions. They just adored him and marked the prices way down and gave him some for free. We loaded up on kids books, got some board games, and a few other treasures. Jake ended up with a mini  television , an old radio and Polaroid camera. After lunch the boys went straight to the field. My friend Carolyn and her daughter Tabby came to ride horses. What started out to be a chilly day 45, turned out nice and sunny. We had coats on, but it was a great day to ride. We rode through our hay patch and along the waterway near the highway. It was a great way to spend the afternoon.

Dayton Fun Show

It has been cold and windy for the past week, highs of 45. Today the sun was shinning and it got up to 60. There was one final horse show for the season at the Dayton arena. We took Jayden and Jacob while Luke went with Grammer and Po and was supposed to come later. It was a fun show geared for practice and the kids. Jake did really well on Winnie, he rode in walk and trot, barrels, and poles. He did some loping. Jayden did pleasure, milk can, barrels, poles, and a jumping event. Her horse Tex really jumps high for the jump event. Down in the arena, there was'nt any wind and the sun came out. It made for a nice day.
