Luke can be very serious especially with people he doesn't know and it's hard to get him to crack a smile. He is very mature and talks like a little man. He can be silly and goofy, happy go lucky and gets along with about everyone. At home, he tends to be emotional. His knowledge of trucks, cars, tractors, semis, and farm equipment is quite impressive. He really doesn't miss much. Like a sponge, he can soak in information and has a great memory. Math comes easily and he works hard at his school and is pretty independent with his work. He is determined and works hard, guitar and taekwondo are hard, but he doesn't give up and keeps working at it.
Luke turned 10 on a Tuesday. He got the day off school and spent almost all of it in front of a screen. He woke up and got to open his gift. He was super excited and pretty shocked to get an XBOX 360. His jaw dropped! We have had an original XBOX for 15 years. There have been dozens of modern popular game consoles created since then, but and I never wanted anything more. They are already game addicts. They are limited to an hour of game time a day and yet they would play all day if you let them. It was something both boys had been asking for over the years and I knew how much they would love it. Luke spent all day on it. I hoped he would get his fill and get tired of it. I was beginning to question my choice. Mark has wanted to get a game system for a few years and I have put my foot down. Video games cause so much conflict in our house. This XBOX 360 we purchased was used and several years old. In my opinion video games are just a sad waste of time. Luke played for hours and Jake joined him when his school was over. I had to make the boys take a couple 1 hour breaks so they wouldn't fry their brains!
On Saturday Luke had his friend CJ over and cousin Rylie was supposed to come too. Luke spent the morning getting all his nerf guns ready and made an obstacle course. He couldn't wait for everyone to come. CJ played the whole day but Luke didn't want to do nerf guns until Rylie came. Eventually we got word that Rylie wouldn't be coming until morning. The boys were bummed, but made the most of it. On Sunday Mark took all 4 boys to the Bass Pro shop in Altoona for some bowling, shooting, and ate lunch. They had a great time, Mark forgot to take any photos.
Wednesday we met at Hickory Park for dinner and a small party with family. The grandparents, Aunt Alice, and Wade's family all joined us early at 4:00 to celebrate before Luke's taekwondo practice. Some of the family went and watched his practice too. It was a great way to celebrate, but got a little rushed when it was present opening time. Hickory Park is always fun on your birthday. You get a free ice cream treat and they sing to you. Mr Luke is ten!!
