Winter Rodeo Fun... The Nelson family invited us again this year to attend the World's Toughest Rodeo in Des Moines. They had access to a VIP suite and extra tickets. I was excited to go and get out of the house. This year both our families were able to attend, plus Brinna who was spending the weekend with us. We decided to meet ahead at Texas Roadhouse for dinner before the rodeo. It was a very busy restaurant, good food and good conversation. The rodeo was nice with our private suite. The kids all are such good friends, they were excited to be together. The rodeo contestants had to have certain qualifications, such as only pro runners and many come from all over to compete in bulls, broncs, and barrel racing. Frankie ran barrels and ended up second. We got to see Wade Sundell ride and once again win the whole rodeo. He rides so smooth and effortless. Dalton Krantz won the bull riding. He is a local cowboy that went to school with Jayden and used to be in the Wranglers saddle club over the years. He has ridden hundreds of bulls since he was very little. He has always done really well and we have been waiting for him to get to the pro level. At 18, I think he is there. It was neat to see two local cowboys not only compete, but win it. It was a bitterly cold night and has been all week. Getting out was good for all of us.
Ski outing... On the 15th, Jake's 180 youth group planned a snow tube day in Boone. There were only 4 eighth grade boys brave enough to venture out in the cold and 3 leaders. The boys had a great time even though it was pretty cold. I am so glad Jake has been able to enjoy the good times with a great bunch of guys!
Crash.... Jayden learned about Tacie, who she rodeo out to Colorado to the vet with, was in an accident with her mom and horse. We saw the awful pictures of the truck and trailer. They were heading back to Colorado for the 1 month re-check with her horse. They hit black ice, went across the median to the oncoming lanes, and were struck by a semi. It is pretty incredible to think they were all ok. Tacie was knocked unconscious and had a gash to her head. The horse had a few scrapes, but they all were home later that night. It was very real and eye opening to Jayden. It could have easily been them on their recent trip. Jayden and her horse could have been on that trailer if we had not taken Ace to Oklahoma. Jayden told me she never thinks about accidents in the truck and trailer. I do, and this is one of my big fears. I pray every time Jayden gets behind the wheel with the trailer and I pray every time she runs barrels. I don't want to be a worrier and I dont let it give me anxiety, I just pray a lot.
