Horses just have a way of getting into trouble and getting hurt. It just goes along with their nature. Unfortunately we have gotten to experience more than our share in the past year. We have made way too many trips to the vet. On a Saturday morning while Jayden was doing chores, she had an incident. She had given the grey horse a bath the night before and he was in a stall. She pulled him out of the stall and tied him. He was pulling back and got himself loose and took off. He ran all over the yard and along the fence line of the horse pens. The young horse pen with Joker, Summer, and Tiny, got pretty excited and began running back and forth from one end to the other slamming into the fences. Joker got himself into a running rampage and he decided to jump out of his pen.Of all the places in his pen, he picked the worst place he could to jump. He jumped over a steel jagged post. I happened to be in the house and looking out, I saw Joker running around in the pasture. It didn't take but a second for me to realize he shouldn't be out there and Jayden wouldn't have turned him out. I threw on boots and a coat and went running out to find Jayden. She was hollering at her horse, but I heard her hollering and instantly thought the worst and she was hurt. She rounded the corner fine and filled me in on all that happened. She caught Joker and I knew we needed to get him to the vet. We hurried and got the truck hooked up and loaded Joker. I could tell his bleeding wasn't gushing or excessive. It looked to be superficial and nothing deep, however I couldn't see everything. Happening on a weekend, of course we had to deal with an emergency and vets on-call and the extra expense. The vets cleaned Joker up and stitched what skin they could back together and wrapped him up. He will need stall rest for 3 weeks. That horse got so lucky, he could have really tore things up.
