The week of
October 22
On Sunday I
went to church alone and had to fill in for Jayden in childcare in the baby
room. I got to hold and entertain babies. The goal, to keep the babies happy
until church is over. It is constant walking, rocking, and entertaining. It is
an easy job when there are only two babies. Mark stayed home, he was tired from
the week. Jayden left early in the morning for a barrel race in Elkhart. It was a
fall series running into December. She took the Bloomer with both Ace and
Joker. I don’t like her going by herself, but she will be 18 soon and I need to let her be independent. It still causes me to worry. After church, Mark and Luke picked me up from
church and we went to watch Jayden at her barrel race. There was a big turnout
for the series, with over 100 in the open. They drug the ground every 5, so it made for a
long show. They ran two shows back to back and you had the option when
you entered to carry over your first run to the second show. It was a gamble, if you
have a great run, that was the way to go, if not you just wasted two runs. It
was a gamble Jayden decided to try. Ace knocked the first barrel and it was over for her. His other barrels were nice and he made a good run otherwise. He was also quiet and good going in the gate for his run. It was a beautiful day, the sun shinning and no wind, so I was kind of glad to leave early.
Back home the sun was still so warm and the forecast ahead was looking to be quite cold so I took the opportunity to ride. I saddled Eagle, Tex, and Traveler. Jake rode with me and Ali happened to be coming out so she joined us. We rode out to the wind turbines again and I got some pictures as the sun went down along with the temperature. It got cold fast and my hands were freezing. Its that time of year, my hands will be cold now until May.
On October 24, I fed the horse for morning chores. While feeding, Tex had his head in the hay feeder and Ace charged at him. Tex startled and pulled back, getting caught in the feeder. He had his mouth caught, his tooth was stuck and he was pulling back with all his might. It took a minute or two and he finally came free. His tooth didnt look so good. After a phone call to the vet, we ended up taking him to ISU where they pulled his tooth. They had to do x-rays because they thought he may have fractured his upper jaw. we were fortunate that was not the case. These horses have chalked up quite the vet bills this year.
