Control Freak

I am a control freak. Is that a bad thing? When my kids want to be on electronics all the time, I limit them to an hour per day. I still think this is too much. I wish electronics didnt existent. Society and the modern times have created a cyber world that has become crucial for life, making appointments, contacting business's, ordering items, communicating, current events, weather, news, etc.  I still think that the iPhone is one of satan's greatest inventions. What else could keep us from our bibles and distract us more than an iPhone? It is constantly there to disrupt, distract, and tempt you.

On Sundays I used to say no television , but for MAark's sake, I was ok with just the news. Eventually I lost on that. I turned it into a no electronic video game day. Mark still reads Ag forums, markets, and emails. I still try to shut off and have everyone unplug. I usually get the rolled eyes and mom is such a nag looks. If Mark was on board it would be easier.
I don't let the kids watch a lot of television and I regulate what they watch and how often.
I dont let the kids eat a ton of junk food, I try to make somewhat healthy food, and make sure we always have an unlimited supply of fresh fruit in the house. I rarely let them buy candy bars or anything with a Little Debbie label!  Pop is something I don't buy and only let the kids have on special occasion. I order water for the kids and myself whenever we eat out, Mark loves to have his tea.
The television shows allow more and more profanity, homosexuality, profane language, and gruesome violence. There is very little left to the imagination. Every since Trump was elected president, the media is so swayed it feels like we are being brain washed. The internet surrounds us everywhere we go, there is access at every home, hotels, restaurants, it as at your fingertips.
In my own home, the boys like to watch television shows, mostly trucker shows, that have terrible language. They enjoy the stories and the big rigs. I just dont understand why the language has to be in it.
Here is Sunday morning,( and a very typical one for us) we get in the car to head to Ames for church. Mark doesn't want to drive anywhere anymore and mush to my disapproval, is on his phone the entire drive. When we arrive at church Mark heads right to the coffee counter and orders a coffee with the boys at his side ordering waters and donuts. It doesn't matter that I made everyone a nice breakfast with waffles and eggs so nobody would be hungry. They do it because they can. After church as I drove back home, Mark wanted to stop at the nearest Kum and Go to get a paper. In doing so he asks if anyone wants anything, I shake my head and remind them we are headed home to eat lunch which is ready in the oven. Since Dad is getting a super sized ice tea, the kids all get a drink too. Mark reads the paper all the way home. The television is on many more times through the day. We are so very different in how we view things.so much so that sometimes it can drive me crazy.
If we train a child at a young age, the hope is that it will carry through when they are on their own I am trying to lead by example, to have self control in hopes that the kids will too. To make good choices in eating healthy so we can be fit and live a healthy lifestyle. To make good choices and not have to spend money extras all the time. I want them to protect their little ears, eyes and heart from so many negative things on television and the internet. I can only imagine what it would be like if I just didn't care and let it all go. Let the kids eat what they want, play what they want, have a tv and computer in their bedrooms behind closed doors, and just let them do their own thing. It would not be pretty. We would have a bunch of spoiled rotten, potty mouthed, overweight, video game addicted children. Call me a control freak, but somebodies got to keep them in line.

Volleyball

Jake  went with Karen after school and to the field. My mom, Luke and I went to Jayden’s  Volleyball game in Coon Rapids.  They played 4 games all losses. They were not having a good serving night and that really hurt them.  Still enjoy watching them learn.

Treasures

In the morning we took 3 of our 4 cats to the vet for shots. The 4 th cat decided to wander this morning missing his appointment. On our way out, we passed a rummage sale and stopped. We got some major treasures for next to nothing. The church ladies were so fascinated with Jacob's interest in old radios and televisions. They just adored him and marked the prices way down and gave him some for free. We loaded up on kids books, got some board games, and a few other treasures. Jake ended up with a mini  television , an old radio and Polaroid camera. After lunch the boys went straight to the field. My friend Carolyn and her daughter Tabby came to ride horses. What started out to be a chilly day 45, turned out nice and sunny. We had coats on, but it was a great day to ride. We rode through our hay patch and along the waterway near the highway. It was a great way to spend the afternoon.

Dayton Fun Show

It has been cold and windy for the past week, highs of 45. Today the sun was shinning and it got up to 60. There was one final horse show for the season at the Dayton arena. We took Jayden and Jacob while Luke went with Grammer and Po and was supposed to come later. It was a fun show geared for practice and the kids. Jake did really well on Winnie, he rode in walk and trot, barrels, and poles. He did some loping. Jayden did pleasure, milk can, barrels, poles, and a jumping event. Her horse Tex really jumps high for the jump event. Down in the arena, there was'nt any wind and the sun came out. It made for a nice day.
