2/3/17 We were up for our first full day in Hawaii early. We
took a walk down the street from my parents condo to the little Farmer’s
Market. They were generously handing out samples of everything. I was sold, I wanted it all! Everything was so fresh and
real. I bought a pineapple, papya, oranges, and bread. For lunch we went to the
fish market down the block and everyone got fish tacos. I went to the fruit
shop instead and got a giant fruit bowl. I love the fresh fruits here and plan
to eat some everyday.
In the afternoon we walked a block to the nearby beach. It was a quiet beach with few people. The boys loved exploring in the water. This spot ended up being their favorite beach because there was rock and coral for them to walk out and explore. They would find creatures and catch them in a net. They caught some tiny fish, a crab, and a little shrimp. Luke always managed to make friends with the little Hawaiian native kids. The beach was nice because the rock stopped the big waves from crashing in. There was also a good amount of sand. We noticed a lot of the beaches were gone because the tide was up, the wind was strong and the waves would take you if you tried to go in. The locals said it was unusually rough seas this time of year. Today there were spotty clouds and it was a little overcast at times. We had sun on and off, but it was still amazing and warm. We spotted whales throughout the day blowing water in the air. Sometimes you could see there fins slapping the water and other times you could see their whale tails. They are such amazing creatures. Mid afternoon we checked into our hotel,. It was beautiful. Luke’s jaw dropped and he was smiling all the way to our room. Mark and I remembered it being the same hotel we stayed on our honeymoon. My parents condo did not have an air conditioning and the first thing I noticed was how cold our room was. I shut the air off in our room and left it off the entire time and kept the windows open. The breeze from the ocean was fresh and warm, but yet cool enough that our room never felt stuffy or hot. It was perfect. Our room had a bedroom, bathroom, large kitchen, washer/dryer, a sleeper living room and we had a roll away bed. It was ideal for all of us. We decided to stay at our hotel to have dinner. Grandma and Grandpa joined us at the restaurant by the beach. Luke was so tired at this point I thought he might fall asleep, he even laid his head on the table. As soon as we finished eating, he was in bed and sleeping. We were all in bed by 9. The time change is hard on us and we are very active all day.
