Joker

10/4/16 I love this time of year. The days are warm and sunny and the nights are cool. We haven’t had the air conditioner on in a couple weeks. The windows are all open and the breeze blows in fresh. I can pick an apple each day off our trees and enjoy them fresh and ripe. The combines are running full force all around. I look forward to finishing school with the kids so we can go out and enjoy the outdoors in the afternoons.. I feel sorry for the kids cooped up indoors on these nice days and for people working in an office. I know I take my freedom for granted. I am so fortunate for the life we live.

Today Jayden took her Aunt Alice with her to go look at a horse. Jayden has been wanting a project horse for about a year. We told her to stay focused on her rodeo season and her horse Ace, then after rodeo season we would consider letting her find something. Right after her last rodeo, she was online researching. She had been searching all year long, but now with intention. She found a 3 year old in Exira. Aunt Alice agreed to take her and I thought that would be fun for them to have that time together. Jayden found Alice’s most recent purchased horse for her by searching online. She found her a Tennessee Walker Palomino named. She is working out nicely for Alice. Today they went and checked out the horse and Jayden came home very excited about the horse.

10/10/16 After more texts and calls, Jayden felt like the 3 year old bay colt is something she wanted to invest in. Today we met the owner at the ISU vet school to have a pre-vet purchase exam done. The vet was very thorough and checked over every inch of the horse. There were no serious red flags. This decision was all Jayden and she is investing her own hard earned money into purchasing the horse. She wrote the biggest check she has ever written today. We bought her Ace, from here on out, it is up to her to chose and buy horses. She has waited a long time to buy a horse.

She chose the name Joker, keeping with her deck of cards name Ace.The day after bringing Joker home, Jayden rode him for the first time at home with Jaynie riding Eagle. She rode him every day for the first week. He is much taller than we realized and is taller than our tallest horse Eagle. He has a sweet disposition and has a great handle on him. Jayden has made improvements and taught him things already. It will be fun to see what these two can do.

Luke was invited to his frined Alex L's house for a sleepover. I am so glad Luke has a friend his age to spend time with, He was in school with him and now church. He is also a farm boy and they have a lot in common.

Volleyball

Jake  went with Karen after school and to the field. My mom, Luke and I went to Jayden’s  Volleyball game in Coon Rapids.  They played 4 games all losses. They were not having a good serving night and that really hurt them.  Still enjoy watching them learn.

Treasures

In the morning we took 3 of our 4 cats to the vet for shots. The 4 th cat decided to wander this morning missing his appointment. On our way out, we passed a rummage sale and stopped. We got some major treasures for next to nothing. The church ladies were so fascinated with Jacob's interest in old radios and televisions. They just adored him and marked the prices way down and gave him some for free. We loaded up on kids books, got some board games, and a few other treasures. Jake ended up with a mini  television , an old radio and Polaroid camera. After lunch the boys went straight to the field. My friend Carolyn and her daughter Tabby came to ride horses. What started out to be a chilly day 45, turned out nice and sunny. We had coats on, but it was a great day to ride. We rode through our hay patch and along the waterway near the highway. It was a great way to spend the afternoon.

Dayton Fun Show

It has been cold and windy for the past week, highs of 45. Today the sun was shinning and it got up to 60. There was one final horse show for the season at the Dayton arena. We took Jayden and Jacob while Luke went with Grammer and Po and was supposed to come later. It was a fun show geared for practice and the kids. Jake did really well on Winnie, he rode in walk and trot, barrels, and poles. He did some loping. Jayden did pleasure, milk can, barrels, poles, and a jumping event. Her horse Tex really jumps high for the jump event. Down in the arena, there was'nt any wind and the sun came out. It made for a nice day.
