8/1/16 Karen came up with the idea to
celebrate their 50th Anniversary by going to Okoboji with all the
family. After she convinced Orrie, she asked me to help plan the trip. It took
some phone calls and changing dates, but we finally found something ideal.
Friday , Saturday, and Sunday we stayed in 2 condos at the Bridges Bay resort.
Karen and Orrie went up on Monday with Maggie, Rylie, Jacob, and Luke for the whole week. They
spent a lot of time at the water park that is on the property. The water park is
on a small scale having a lazy river, 2 water slides, a splash playground, and
basketball hoop pool. Maggie and Rylie didn’t care much for the water park, but
it sounded like our boys made 3 trips per day. On Friday we didn’t get left
home as early as planned and took the boat up arriving at 4:00. We walked into
our condo and it was breathtaking. It was by far the nicest and biggest place
we have ever stayed. It was so spacious with a large living room and kitchen
with solid windows and a view of the entire lake. We had a king size master bedroom
with windows to the ground and a view like no other. We were on the second
floor with a wrap around deck to sit and see the whole lake. The rest of the
condo was so roomy with another king bed and bunk rooms, 2 bathrooms,. The
master bathroom was gigantic. It was the condo of all condos. Come to find out
it was a big upgrade from what we had paid for. The original room was sold and
so we got quite a deal. I could live in that condo. I spent any free time on
the deck with a book.
The first night, all the families met up at Karen and Orrie’s condo for a big lasagna supper. Allie missed out on the weekend because she could not get her work schedule changed. Torrie was up with her boyfriend whose family was also in Okoboji. We saw very little of Torrie. The first night Abby and her boyfriend stayed at the cottage and we did not see them. Jossie and her boyfriend left on Saturday. I still find it awkward with all the boyfriends, especially in the condo when they are all getting back rubs and spooning. It was a bit more than I could handle so I didn’t hang around their condo as much. The couples all stayed at the Anderlik cottage overnight. The 3 mornings we were all there, Karen served breakfast at 9AM. She made eggs daily along with either pancakes, biscuits and gravy, and always bacon so it lingered in the room. With one boat, everyone took turns going out in it either skiing or tubing. This year we got Luke to tube for the first time and both Jayden and Jacob attempted water skiing. They were unsuccessful, but tried many times. Cousin Rylie popped right up which just made it harder on Jake.
The weather in Okoboji was wonderful, 75, 80 and sunny. It was not hot, but sunny and nice also cool at night. We had a couple rain showers that kept us from boating. Karen had her Sequence game along. The college age kids took many naps throughout the day. In the free moments, I liked to sit in our condo on the deck and take in the amazing view and read a book. It was so peaceful and pretty. On Sunday night Orrie reserved a room at the new restaurant for everyone, our numbers were down to 16 people. Orrie had everyone order anything, as long as it was pizza and we share it. After we ate everyone did their own thing. Mark and I watched the sunset by the docks. It was a great weekend and we had the most amazing room. The kids had a great time an love spending time with cousins. It has been harder to get them all together the older they get.
