Last Week in August

8/26/16 This week Jayden started her College English Comp class at the Ogden high school. It is mostly seniors in her class. So far I think she is enjoying the thrill of being a high schooler. She has gotten noticed in class and in the hallways getting lots of looks. Of course she is the new girl, but I think a big part is the tall beautiful blonde. I am sure she is turning lots of heads. Yes, she is enjoying meeting and talking to new people. She tells me she is not being shy and trying to get to know people. I read her paper she wrote on the second day of class and I was so impressed. I think she could pass the class already. She is an exceptional writer. One thing I have noticed, getting her to write a paper at home has been like twisting her arm and she doesn’t put much effort into it. Doing a paper in the class, she does great. I am not sure what that says for me, I just know taking this class will be great for her.
On Wednesday the kids had their first youth groups. Jacob was nervous about starting up again and didn’t really want to go. Once there he had a great time and was glad he went. Jayden took her friend Erica and they even had a snow cone truck for the high schoolers to enjoy. Thursday morning Grandma and Grandpa came and spent the day. Jake and Grandpa started working on the pet house project. 25 years ago I made a cat house as a 4H project with my Dad. It has held up really well and I wanted Jake to make one with Grandpa. We designed it a little bigger, which made it a little harder to build.  Jacob helped Grandpa with every step. Luke even got into using a hand saw. Later the boys painted it.

In the evening we had riding lessons at 5 and 7, and a girl came and roped at 6. It was a busy evening.
In sad news, our chickens stopped eating and 2 have died. Jake, just the other day, decorated the chicken coop with some drawings He really likes his chickens and is sad.
Friday I took the mama cats to have their spay surgeries.
On Saturday Mark took Jayden to Waterloo for a Barrel Bash. It was a long day for them, tractor raking every 5, so it made for a late night getting home. On the last stretch, Mark told jayden to drive the rest of the way and he went to sleep. Jayden drove the truck and trailer and they got home at 2AM.

Volleyball

Jake  went with Karen after school and to the field. My mom, Luke and I went to Jayden’s  Volleyball game in Coon Rapids.  They played 4 games all losses. They were not having a good serving night and that really hurt them.  Still enjoy watching them learn.

Treasures

In the morning we took 3 of our 4 cats to the vet for shots. The 4 th cat decided to wander this morning missing his appointment. On our way out, we passed a rummage sale and stopped. We got some major treasures for next to nothing. The church ladies were so fascinated with Jacob's interest in old radios and televisions. They just adored him and marked the prices way down and gave him some for free. We loaded up on kids books, got some board games, and a few other treasures. Jake ended up with a mini  television , an old radio and Polaroid camera. After lunch the boys went straight to the field. My friend Carolyn and her daughter Tabby came to ride horses. What started out to be a chilly day 45, turned out nice and sunny. We had coats on, but it was a great day to ride. We rode through our hay patch and along the waterway near the highway. It was a great way to spend the afternoon.

Dayton Fun Show

It has been cold and windy for the past week, highs of 45. Today the sun was shinning and it got up to 60. There was one final horse show for the season at the Dayton arena. We took Jayden and Jacob while Luke went with Grammer and Po and was supposed to come later. It was a fun show geared for practice and the kids. Jake did really well on Winnie, he rode in walk and trot, barrels, and poles. He did some loping. Jayden did pleasure, milk can, barrels, poles, and a jumping event. Her horse Tex really jumps high for the jump event. Down in the arena, there was'nt any wind and the sun came out. It made for a nice day.
