The past two days were ideal, in the 70’s. It felt a lot like fall and I had all the windows in the house open. a couple nights ago we enjoyed a nice horse ride down the road. Monday Mark sold his steers he has been feeding since last November. He butchered one of his best steers and it weighed in at 1650lbs. Jayden helped Mark work the cattle and load them in the semi. Orrie likes watching people work is always found with a video camera in hand. It took 3 semis to haul the cattle. Luke rode in one semi into Boxholm to weigh them.
Mark wanted to get back into feeding cattle, but this might be where it ends. The markets were not in his favor and it was so much work. He had some bloats this summer and he recently had a steer break its back and had to be put down. With all the highs and lows of feeding cattle, I think he is going to step back and away for the time. He enjoys it so much and is sad to see them go.He has always been full of ambition. That night before dark the kids were out in the yard running around being silly, having relays, screaming, and giggling. Luke was running around in his underwear?! I went for a bike ride. Just my dog Daisy and I. She is getting old and it is hard on her to go for runs, but she gets so excited when she sees me get the bike out. Today the heat and humidity came back. Today Jayden started back to school. She is taking a couple college credit courses. She has to attend the Ogden high school for her English Comp class. I am no it sure ehat I think about that. It has been 3 years since she has taken a public school class. It was weird to see her leave the house today for school. This will be tough having to be at class every day from 1:30-2:20. That is one thing I have enjoyed about homeschool is the flexibility and freedom to go places and schedule things.
In the evening I took Jayden to a jackpot barrel race in Maxwell. She wanted to go to make some practice runs before finals. We thought it would be a small casual jackpot. Not the case, there were 50 in the open, tough copetition, one of her biggest IRCA rivals ran too. There was 2 plus hours of warm-ups, tractor trouble, they kept losing the barrel steaks in the ground, and the electric timer quit twice. It made for a very long night! In the open, her competition ran a 15.4 and there wre a handful of 15.s. Jayden’s plan was to do gate work with her horse and try a new strategy to keep from tipping any barrels. She knocked the third barrel and the announcer said,” You’re not going to like this, your time wpould have been a 14.9, the fastest time all night. AHHH! This happens so much, the great runs that could have been winning runs lost with the knocked over barrel. Jayden has got to get out of this rut. It was a long drive home, jayden has a great attitude and doesnt get down. It was midnight when we got home.
