Rain

7/7/16 During the night hours of the 6th, we got a good thunderstorm with rain, an inch of rain! We got a couple tenths a few nights ago. Until these rains we had been so dry the corn was rolling and short and our yard was fried and brown. We needed the rain so much! Rain in this extreme heat is crucial. Mark was certain we would not get the rains and we would have a severe drought. Corn prices last week dropped from $4 and now they are below $3. This is going to be hard on the farmers!
Emily left a nice post on Facebook about Jayden and confirmed her win last night in Marshalltown. She is so excited for Jayden. I think she is quite amazed that the little horse she sold to us is doing so amazing. She told Jayden she has many friends that rodeo in IRCA that travel for years and never even pull a check and that Jayden should be so thankful. That is so very true. Most people don’t understand the rodeo circuit and very few appreciate what it means to place and win money at a rodeo. I am still in awe that Ace and Jayden are really at this level of competition.
The morning started out with Jayden going to physical therapy, in hopes of helping with her joint pain, then we all had eye appointments. Later I took the boys to the Boone pool. I had been wanting to take them since swim lessons. It did not go well. I don’t know what it is about my kids and the public swimming pool, but it never goes well. Luke complained about the water being too cold and it was certainly not at all. He just got spoiled in Liz’s heated pool during lessons. Jake complained because he did not have his favorite goggles. They were not having much fun. My goal was to get Luke to go down the big waterslide. It is ideal for a first slide, not too big and goes out in 3 feet of water. When that kid sets his mind there is no changing it. He is so strong willed!! We made it to the top of the slide and I agreed to go first when he high tailed it down the stairs and that was the end of that. I do not enjoy our trips to the pool, but my kids are never going to learn to swim or like the water if we don't go.

Volleyball

Jake  went with Karen after school and to the field. My mom, Luke and I went to Jayden’s  Volleyball game in Coon Rapids.  They played 4 games all losses. They were not having a good serving night and that really hurt them.  Still enjoy watching them learn.

Treasures

In the morning we took 3 of our 4 cats to the vet for shots. The 4 th cat decided to wander this morning missing his appointment. On our way out, we passed a rummage sale and stopped. We got some major treasures for next to nothing. The church ladies were so fascinated with Jacob's interest in old radios and televisions. They just adored him and marked the prices way down and gave him some for free. We loaded up on kids books, got some board games, and a few other treasures. Jake ended up with a mini  television , an old radio and Polaroid camera. After lunch the boys went straight to the field. My friend Carolyn and her daughter Tabby came to ride horses. What started out to be a chilly day 45, turned out nice and sunny. We had coats on, but it was a great day to ride. We rode through our hay patch and along the waterway near the highway. It was a great way to spend the afternoon.

Dayton Fun Show

It has been cold and windy for the past week, highs of 45. Today the sun was shinning and it got up to 60. There was one final horse show for the season at the Dayton arena. We took Jayden and Jacob while Luke went with Grammer and Po and was supposed to come later. It was a fun show geared for practice and the kids. Jake did really well on Winnie, he rode in walk and trot, barrels, and poles. He did some loping. Jayden did pleasure, milk can, barrels, poles, and a jumping event. Her horse Tex really jumps high for the jump event. Down in the arena, there was'nt any wind and the sun came out. It made for a nice day.
