7/12/16 The county fair has begun. We
are so fortunate to borrow Corey’s camper for the fair and he took it and set
it up for us on Sunday. The last two years we did not have a camper to enjoy. This camper is so nice !! It is roomy, clean, neat, and we are going to enjoy it. Today was judging day. We only had a few projects this year and were
working on them up until the last minute. I am usually more prepared. I was
helping type write ups this morning. Jake had 3 drawings, 3 photos, a 4H
poster, and a Vietnam project. Jayden had 3 photos, and a horse business
project that she came up with and completed all on her own in about an hour. They had a great day. They each had a photo held back for state fair consideration. Jacob got a purple on his tractor drawing and it was also held back and considered for state and a purple on his Veitnam poster and 4H poster. Jayden's big surprise was her horse business write up got selected for the state fair. The judge was very impressed. Jayden did a really good job on it. She put it all together yesterday!
On Thursday, Luke took a drawing of his semi. It was very important to him to get to participate. He was a little disappointed that everyone got the same color ribbon, he felt he deserved a blue. Thursday at the fair was a busy one too. We had to bring the horses in for the week and it was a Tuff N Nuff youth rodeo on the fairgrounds. We also brought Alex S to hang out with Jacob. They have spent the day at the fair together for the past few years. We took Tex and eagle to the fair and got them set up in their stalls and decorated with the Disney theme. Jayden made a last minute decision to take Tex to the fair. She had been working with Ace on all the events and getting his tail grown out and looking good. Ace is in excellent shape, looks great, and is running great. He can slow down for show classes and pep up for game. However, the fair will not allow anyone to release animals prior to 7Pm and there is a rodeo Sunday night at 7. It would be a long hard week for Ace in a hot stall, ride all day Saturday and all morning Sunday in the heat running games, then try to make a rodeo in the evening. Jayden thought long and hard and decided she did not want to compromise her rodeo season and chose to leave Ace at home. It was a hard decision, but really had no choice. She had Tex, her back up and he had been to enough meetings to be able to show at the fair. He was not tuned up and ready for the fair, but Jayden was prepared to make him a purple ribbon champ. Jake was excited to take his horse Eagle and care for him at the fair. He had to do chores and keep his stall clean. The boys ran around, went to the camper, and played card games in the livestock barns. At some point, Alex left Jake to go off with his brother, which made Jake sad.
In the evening was the youth rodeo. Jayden ran barrels on Tex. He did ok for not having run in a couple months.
Friday at the fair was a beautiful day sunny and nice. We actually got cold in the camper overnight. Today was perfect. I hope this weather can hold on throughout the fair. I watched Jaynie at the beef show. Anderlik’s did not participate in the county fair this year.
Friday night at the fair is always a horse meeting and potluck. Afterward, Jayden drove home to ride Ace so he would be ready for the Sunday rodeo. Not too many
kids would have the drive that Jayden does to leave the fair to go home and
ride her horse so that he is ready for the upcoming rodeo, then go back to the
fair to ride the other horse and get him ready. She is quite the gal. I was
exhausted just thinking about it. We stayed the night in the camper and Jaynie stayed to. It sure is nice to be there for morning chores, but its hard on my body sleeping.
