FOr the past 3 years, my favorite radio station Life 107.1 has sponsored a Faith and Family night in Des Moines with a basketball game, concert, pop, popcron, hot dog, all for $10.71 per person. So when asked what I wanted for my birthday this year, all I asked was to go to the Faith and Family night. Since it was my special day, eveyone had to comply. Not only that, but I also requested we attned Cornerstone church in Ames, rather than Boone. I miss the Ames church so much. I love the atmosphere, the worship music, the band, the singers, the pastors, the friends and the kids classrooms. Yes, going to Boone has been good, but I really miss Ames and so going on occasion is a treat. With that our day was perfect. The only hard part was knowing it was a nice springlike 60 degree day outside and we were spending all of it inside. We ate at Hickory Park and I got my birthday sundae. In getting last minute tickets ( I forgot to call in ahead and missed the deadline, but still was allowed the special otherwise it was $50/person just for the game alone) our seats ended up being 4th row. I think when I mentioned it was for my birthday, they gave my great seats. The basketball game was the Iowa Energy team a minor league team that played well. It just wasn't anything like a college game, but still neat.
We had our free food and then it was time for the concert. I looked the group up on the internet and knew some of their songs. We also learned that the singer was part of the Newsboys for 13 years. This group calls themselves "Zealand" and not only because the lead singer Phillip is from New Zealand, but because of his zeal for Christ. He dresses like a hippie from hair to bell bottoms. He was a great singer and talked a lot, told his testimopny and pointed everyone to God. It was very uplifting and enjoyable. Luke was so taken by the lead singer that he told me he wants to grow up and look just like him. Here is Luke all decked out in his cowboy clothes complete with a cowboy hat. In fact the only cowboy hat in the entire auditorium and he tells me he wants to grow his hair hippie long like this singer and wants to start wearing bell bottom jeans, and he was completely serious!! I love that kid.
