3/3/16 Mark’s parents and our family
took Mike Rhaodes out to dinner with his wife Donna and parents to the Webster
City Emporium. Mike has now been with our farm for 10 years. It was an
anniversary celebration. We think a lot of Mike. He is a good worker, a kind
hearted Christian man, and a great role model. He has been a great asset to our farm. At a young age, the boys pointed out to us that they knew Mike was a Christian man and could see it in his actions and kindness.
On the way home we stopped to visit Mark’s great uncle Norman who is in a nursing home and 95. I had not seen him for a couple years. He is sharp as can be and pays attention. He is looking thinner and old. He is not happy about being in the nursing home and it makes you quite sad. He explains how they took him from his apartment in Stratford and won’t let him go back. He was living alone in his apartment far longer than he should have been allowed. He could not take care of himself and his apartment was in terrible shape. He stayed in his recliner all day and night. He could not get around on his own and frequently didn’t make it to the bathroom. It was not a good situataion. He ended up with a large swollen leg that was very infected. In his mind he was perfectly fine. His nursing home room is quite sad, small, and he shares a roommate. He has been in for a year without a televison, radio, or telephone. That would be awful. He also has problems with his vison so cannot see much or read at all. He talked about how he feels like he is in prison and wants to badly to go back to his apartment and is determined to get back there. I know he really enjoyed our visit and he didnt want us to leave.
