Mark and I left for the Mercy hospital at 7:45AM. I was to be at the hospital at 9 and surgery was scheduled for 10:30. As soon as they checked me in the nurses were rushing my every step, scrub my body with wipes, pee in a cup,put on a gown and slippers, and start an I.V. The doctor was ahead of schedule and wanted to start my surgery right away. I felt very rushed, but I guess that is better than having to wait and wait. This is ta BRCA gene preventative surgery by having a full hysterectomy. In doing so I will go from over 80% chance of getting ovarian cancer, down to less than 1 %.
Surgery was at 10 and din't get over until 1:30. It was only supposed to be an hour surgery. Sadly the doctors didn't give Mark updates so he began to worry. In the recovery room, I tried waking up but my eyes kept closing, Then I got sick and nauseated. Dry heaves felt horrible on my very sensitive abdomen. Up to my room, I felt horrible, After I dozed off a few times I felt a little better, Mark was waiting with flowers and a kiss. My parents also had flowers sent. The night hours felt long. I had no problem at all falling asleep, in fact that is all I wanted to do. However, from 11 until 7, I had lots of nurses in and out, changing IV , taking vitals, drawing blood, and every other thing. By morning the nurses were sparse and hard to get any help. We were not impressed with the nurse care this time around. Mark ended up helping the most by helping me in and out of bed and walking. I was so happy to go to the bathroom without any of the problems I had with my previous surgery. For the rest of the day, I was in the bathroom every hour. My bladder always felt full. Word was our doctor would be in by 7AM. She finally showed up at 3:00. I wasn't in a hurry to go home and spent most of the day in and out of sleep. I actually had to ask if I could get up and walk. The nurses were not very helfpful. Usually the nurses insist you get up and walk. Mark was my personal nurse and took excellent care of me. We made it home by 6:00 PM. I wasnt feeling much for pain, just hard to get around. It was good to be home with the kids and to sleep in peace. I didn't like the idea of sleeping in a flat bed , so I slept in the lazy boy.
