I
12/26/15 Christmas is over and I look back over the past 48 hours and wonder
just like the lyrics to the song”Where are you Christmas, why can’t I find
you?” That song keeps playing in my head as I think about our Christmas’. The
abundance of gifts have gotten out of control. The kids come to expect so many, everything they ask for and more. The gifts are the main focus of
Christmas. How do we change it? Each year I try to buy less for our own kids
and try to keep it simple. Try to focus more on giving and how we can give and
serve in various ways like Operation Christmas Child, World Vision, and making
baked goods for neighbors. Focusing on Christmas and how truly blessed we are
and how Christ came to this earth for us is where we need the main focus.. But
on that very special Christmas Eve and Christmas day when we celebrate the
birth of Jesus. "Where are you Christmas, why can’t I find you?"
Rylie spent the night at our house. Today, thevboys played out in the snow
for a long time, until they were soaked through their clothes. They pulled the
sled with the gator. In the afternoon we all went to the Star Wars movie in
Ames. We got tickets in advance, but failed to arrive early enough. We were all
spread out finding any last seat we could. I found two spots for Rylie and Jake
to sit together. I wandered looking for Luke and I. My school friend Mindy
spotted me and ended up moving a person in her family down a seat and that made
room for Luke and I to sit together by Mindy. That was so perfect and lucky.
Jayden and Mark had to split up and sit alone. That is no fun at all watching a
movie by yourself. Luke and I were 4 rows from the front, with necks cranked
back and the screen in our face. I was worried about Luke getting scared and debated whether he should even go and here we were as close as can be.The movie was intense and had some scary
parts. I never like all the violence, killing, and evil darkness portrayed in
movies, but that describes about every action movie to this day. Luke did well,
he had to hide his head under his coat half a dozen times, but was fine. I can
now say I watched a Star Wars movie on the big screen, but I do not care to see
any more. I have never been a fan of sci-fi movies. I really enjoy a movie based on a true story. We ate at Applebbes for supper and the boys
ended up staying with Karen and Orrie. I love seeing the two boys spend some time together just being boys, no pressure from school, no pressure having to be cool or grown up or competitive. I will cherish it while I can.
