12/25/15 Christmas morning Mark and I
were up at 7:30 and woke the kids by 8. I love that my kids have never been
Christmas morning crazy waking up at wee hours in the morning. Outside the
window, it was a winter wonderland outside with fluffy white snow everywhere. The
kids waited in anticipation in the hallway so all 3 could enter together to see
what Santa left under the tree. A splint boot bag full of horse supplies for
Jayden, Star Wars Legos and a vintage camera for Jake, and a drone for Luke.
Everyone was excited. We opened stockings, then gift after gift. Mark wanted to
move things along because he had cows to feed and lots of snow to push. Jayden
got the most special gift from her Dad, her calf roping sled, also fuzzy UGG
style boots, a vest, clothes. Jacob got
his new .22 shotgun. He and Mark went to town the day before and picked it out
together along with shells and a case.
Luke got a pair of Twisted X shoes, clothes, a punching bag, and some
small toys. He was most excited about his drone. I got a new purse and a western belt. Mark got clothes, and more
clothes, and more clothes.
When Mark went to do chores I decided to get the drone going for Luke. I didn't read any directions and thought the controller looked pretty self explanatory. I forgot the part where you have to calibrate it and how to make it stop. I turned it on and pushed one of the control switches up and it shot into the air came down and was out of control. Jayden screamed as it zoomed be her and hit the wall. It continued to zip and zoom along the wall. Luke was grabbing on to me screaming and shaking yelling to make it stop. It took me a bit to shut it down and Luke was absolutely terrified. I took the gift he had waited months for, was super excited about and I turned it into a machine of terror. I felt like the worst mom and just spoiled his Chrisstmas present. I took it into my bedroom and read the directions and practiced flying it. It is ultra sensitive and a tiny little movement makes it zip up. Pushing down on the throttle instatnly stops it. That would have been good to know before. After some time I had it down fairly well and showed Luke. He did not trust it or me and had to stand behind me in the closet with a barrier he could hide behind if he needed. I gave him some "flying instructions" and pretty soon he got the hang of it and could make it fly up and down under control. he was still very scared of it.
