On October 8, the first man in
the US died of Ebola. Not long before, two missionaries infected with Ebola
were brought to the US to be treated and both were survivors thanks be to God.
The latest victim was not so lucky, he was a Liberian man who traveled from
West Africa to Texas where he lived. He went to the TX hospital for medical
attention and was sent home for 3 days before returning and being diagnosed
with Ebola. The number of people he exposed is scary. Shortly after
his death, a nurse that worked with the man came up sick and had contracted
ebola. That is where it gets really scary. These health care workers are in a
hospital setting using every precaution from full body suits, extra gloves,
booties, and full face masks. They have extensive procedures to prevent
contamination like this. Of all people, they should be safe. Then another health care worker recently contracted it. Now it is in the US and we are in
trouble. Ebola has been a life threatening disease in Africa and many lives
have been lost. The death toll is in the thousands from this outbreak. I find
it ironic that people know about things like Ebola and just turn away thinking
I am glad I don’t have to worry about it. All it took was one case in the
United States for people to listen up, open their eyes to what is out there and
become concerned. It is quite selfish because the concern is not for the Africians, but out of concern
for themselves. When it hits so close to home all of the sudden it
is a reality and we might have to face it. Now people are raising money to help
fight it, help prevent it, help the spread, and help those sick in Africa.
Before it hit the US, nobody cared except the missionaries there helping. It is a frightening disease and we have good reason to be fearful. Phillipians 4:6 comes
to mind Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and
petition, with thanksgiving present your requests to God.
