Today was
the Dayton Wranglers Youth rodeo. Since it fell on a Sunday, we try our best to
make it in time for cowboy church at 8AM. It makes for an early and rushed
morning. The boys were all spiffy in their new western shirts. Jesse G. did the church service. Without a microphone he was hard to
hear and an extremely rude fowl mouthed family behind us didn’t help either.
People like that make me want to scream. During the rodeo, I had good helpers setting
up and running the timed events, barrels, poles, and flags. The girls started with a good serpentine routine. Both Jayden and
Jacob competed in the events. Jake was looking pretty proud on his horse, Winnie. He did a really good job, loped the entire pole pattern, and went through
poles at a trot then lope home. He still hangs on to his saddle horn and neck reins his horse, however he has come a long way and is getting better all
the time.
Jayden did a good job on her horse, Ace. Her run was good and tight around the barrels. Her horse ran fast and she felt good about it. The cometition is tough at these events. There are several age 14 to 16 that have amazing barrel horses. I just tell Jayden to improve and compare her runs to her previous runs and just try to improve. I want her to enjoy the sport and to do well. She works hard at it and I would like to see her place now and then. It is such a hard sport. Her poles are really looking good, smooth and quick. Her horse really whips around the end poles. His only problem comes when he is running home. Before he gets to the timer, he tries to loop back as if he thinks he should go again. I know she lost time on her run, so it gives us something to work on. After the speed events Mark and I were sitting on the bleachers eating our lunch. I looked over to the trailer and saw Jacob petting Winnie. It was a sweet moment I wish I could have videoed. He was patting her and petting her side. Then he laid his head against her and loved on her. Jake has such a sweet spot for animals. We left the arena not long after the timed events to get ready for Jossie's graduation.
