What a day.
Yeah that whole soccer mom thing is kicking me. I just cannot be in
two places at the same time. I need to clone myself on days like this.
Jayden’s serpentine practice got rescheduled for today at 3:30 and Luke had a
soccer game in Gowrie at 3:15. How could I do both? I also had buck night in
the evening which meant I needed to take 3 horses with me. My first plan was to
drop Jayden and 3 horses off at the arena. I just didn’t want to leave her
there all alone. The grandparents ended up helping me. Karen and Orrie took
Luke to his soccer game. I took Jayden to her practice, unloaded the horses and
unhooked the trailer so I could catch part of Luke’s game. He did good, kicked
the ball a few times and the highlight was when he came running across the
field to hand me his tooth. Yes, he lost his very first tooth during his soccer
game. Too funny. By the end of the game
it was sprinkling and raining when I arrived back to the Dayton arena. It sprinkled steady for an hour. The
girls finished their serpentine practice and all but Makenna headed home. It
was just too rainy for the others. Jayden and Makenna rode horses in the rain,
bareback, then double. It is great to see Jayden shine as the girls have become
better friends. The boys explored the
chutes and pens in the rain. 10 minutes before the buck night fun show began,
the sky cleared and the sun came back out making for an ideal evening. Alice
came to watch and help and Mark came too. Karen, Orrie, and their friends
watched awhile from their vehicle. With 7 participants, the show moved rather
quickly. I rode Tex and ponied Luke who was riding Winnie. He did barrels and
the milk jug race. That worked really well and he even trotted with me and
enjoyed it. Why didn’t I think to do that all these years with Jayden and Jacob
instead of running on foot in the mud leading their horse. Jacob did the walk trot class with some
of the older girls and got first place. He also did milk jug, barrels, and poles. He is doing great on Winnie, he trots through then lopes her home. It is neat to see him doing
so well and I like that little horse Winnie more all the time. Everyone needs a
safe babysitter horse like Winnie to start on. Unfortunately Jayden never had
that, but it sure has made her a good rider. Jayden rode Tex for Serpentine
practice, so she didn’t get much warm-up time with Ace. She did walk/trot,
pleasure, barrels, and poles. This was her first time with Ace away from home
in a competition. She told me she was not going to run him and I told her,
“yes, but he may.” Sure enough, he took off and was ready to run those barrels. It took
Jayden by surprise with his speed and power. At home he never really runs for
her. This was her first experience of what it really felt like. He turned the
barrels well, he just kind of went wide running. Jayden wasn’t happy with it,
but was glad to get that first one out of the way as a learning experience. The
muddy ground didn’t seem to bother him either. Her poles are looking great.
She trotted the pattern and he is tight and zips around the ends. I think she
is going to have herself a pole bending horse. I am so glad she found Ace and I
think they will have a good road ahead. I am praying for them to be safe
and do well together and for Ace to stay sound and healthy. He could be a lot
of fun for her.
