We left on a Thursday and checked into a cabin at Lake Rathbun. It had been several years since our last visit. Once we stayed in a cabin for a little Wahlert reunion with Wade's family, the grandparents, and Aunt Alice. Another time we stayed at the hotel for Kallie Mae's first wedding. The resort is gorgeous and well kept like something in Colorado. They have made renovations and are trying to make it better and more popular. We all went golfing. Jake hadn't golfed in a couple years and had a rough start. Mark got upset when a vehicle driving by honked while he was swinging. You would think that was the worst thing any human could possibly do to him. People do it all the time and think its funny. He did not and I certainly did not like his response. After our rough start and losing many balls in tall grass, the last half we all seemed to get into a grove. laugh, and enjoy it a little more. There were deer roaming on the course, the area was very scenic and pretty. The resort pool closed at 7:00PM and didn't open until 11AM. That was ridiculous. The boys had more free time than they liked and were bored. The cabin was nice and roomie, one boy took the sofa sleeper, and we had two other bedrooms. Friday morning Mark and Luke went to practice their swings at the driving range. In the afternoon, we rented a pontoon boat for 3 hours. The water was smooth, not a lot of boaters, and not a lot to see. It was very different from Okoboji. We had a bimini sun shade and Jake had his 90's music playing. It was a nice quiet boat cruise. Later we enjoyed the waterpark at our resort. They had 5 tubes in the whole place for using. The slides were open for an hour, then closed an hour. There was a couple slides and a lazy river and no food shack. This is really disappointing if you are planning a big fun waterpark weekend. This resort is huge and has so much potential, but there was hardly anyone there. We went into Centerville for dinner and ice cream. That town was an interesting redneck town. Saturday morning the boys went to the pool once it opened at 11. I took a short walk, then went to the lake to float and kayak. The boys aren't very adventurous. It is hard to get them to do much. They spend all their free time on the cell phones and watching tv. They were on their phones the whole trip!!! It made us realize how bad it has gotten. Cell phones are time suckers, fun destroyers, and family anger causers. I wish we could have left all the phones at home. Family vacations have always been so much fun. As the kids are older, we all struggle a little more.
