The start of July

Saturday Mark and I  rode bikes from Dawson to Perry and back, a 12 mile roundtrip. It was a beautiful day for an enjoyable ride. We ate Chinese on an outdoor patio table in Perry after our ride. Jake went to the Good Guys Car show with his buddies for the day. He came home and is grounded once again. Parenting adult children is hard!

Sunday we went to church and had Ali and family, Blake's parents, and Karen and Orrie over for dinner. It was a great day to be outside and we all enjoyed the time together. I gave Titus his little Red Ford walker that I found. It was in perfect condition and about to be  thrown in a dumpster. It is such a cute thing for a little boy.  Titus smiled so big in his new truck. He's getting so heavy and doenst have a lot of upper body strength, so you really have to hold him up and he feels extra heavy. Jake and Luke are still leery of holding him, he makes them nervous.

July 4th, Jake and Luke went to the Williams parade . Luke made plans to ride with Alivia and Wade.  After all these years, Wade found a Fat Cat motorcycle to buy. He had one as a kid and I remember it well. It was the only motorcycle I would get on and ride and enjoy. Wade found the Fat Cat along with a Yamaha Big Wheel and bought the pair. On the 4th he proudly showed them and Luke rode his own 4 wheeler. Flashback a few years ago and Luke and Alivia road their bicycles in the parade.

July 5th, Mark forewarned me that the weatherman was talking about the potential for a derecho. We had been through one Iowa derecho and hearing of another is frightening. We knew it would be coming around 6:30/7:00 and wanted to make sure we were all home and safe. My parents brought Luke down to our house around 3 and they were planning to go to a movie in Ames. We talked them into heading for home. Luke was up at the shop, when the winds came up, he went to his grandparents. There was a time where the wind picked up for a few minutes then it calmed back down. He decided then to drive home while it was the calm. Thankfully he made it home before the big surge. HIs timing was a little too close for comfort. A little before 7, the wind came blasting over 90mph. It was scary and I went to the basement. It was loud and strong, but it didn't last long. We could hear flapping against the house and shingles flapping. When we looked out we could see 2 trees down. We were so sad to lose our trees. When we went out to investigate, there were a total of 4 trees, knocked over and uprooted. My clothesline was taken out, a strip of siding gone, and lots of shingles gone. Ugh! What is with these damaging storms?

July 6, Jayden moved her horses to a local facility that specializes in barrel and rope horses. She found a local ad at just the perfect time. She was needing to find hay and trying to find other arrangements for her horses. She had them at the ranch in the heat with no real shelter. This was an answer to prayer. I am so excited she now has a safe place for her horses where they have shelter and someone watching over them. Jayden will help with chores for her board and has access to a big outdoor arena where she can ride. This was the ad she answered. It feels like it was written just for her.

While 4th of July celebrations were taking place around the country, evil was also creeping through one small town. From the internet... 7/4/22 HIGHLAND PARK, Ill. (AP) — A gunman on a rooftop opened fire on an Independence Day parade in suburban Chicago on Monday, killing at least six people, wounding at least 30 and sending hundreds of marchers, parents with strollers and children on bicycles fleeing in terror, police said. Authorities said a man named as a person of interest in the shooting was taken into police custody Monday evening after an hours long manhunt in and around Highland Park, an affluent community of about 30,000 on Chicago’s north shore. The July 4 shooting was just the latest to shatter the rituals of American life. Schools, churches, grocery stores and now community parades have all become killing grounds in recent months. This time, the bloodshed came as the nation tried to find cause to celebrate its founding and the bonds that still hold it together. The shooting occurred at a spot on the parade route where many residents had staked out prime viewing points early in the day for the annual celebration. Several hours after police released the 21 year old man’s photo and an image of his silver Honda Fit, and warned the public that he was likely armed and dangerous. NorthShore University Health Center received 26 patients after the attack. All but one had gunshot wounds, said Dr. Brigham Temple. Sadness and horror once again rock our country.

Volleyball

Jake  went with Karen after school and to the field. My mom, Luke and I went to Jayden’s  Volleyball game in Coon Rapids.  They played 4 games all losses. They were not having a good serving night and that really hurt them.  Still enjoy watching them learn.

Treasures

In the morning we took 3 of our 4 cats to the vet for shots. The 4 th cat decided to wander this morning missing his appointment. On our way out, we passed a rummage sale and stopped. We got some major treasures for next to nothing. The church ladies were so fascinated with Jacob's interest in old radios and televisions. They just adored him and marked the prices way down and gave him some for free. We loaded up on kids books, got some board games, and a few other treasures. Jake ended up with a mini  television , an old radio and Polaroid camera. After lunch the boys went straight to the field. My friend Carolyn and her daughter Tabby came to ride horses. What started out to be a chilly day 45, turned out nice and sunny. We had coats on, but it was a great day to ride. We rode through our hay patch and along the waterway near the highway. It was a great way to spend the afternoon.

Dayton Fun Show

It has been cold and windy for the past week, highs of 45. Today the sun was shinning and it got up to 60. There was one final horse show for the season at the Dayton arena. We took Jayden and Jacob while Luke went with Grammer and Po and was supposed to come later. It was a fun show geared for practice and the kids. Jake did really well on Winnie, he rode in walk and trot, barrels, and poles. He did some loping. Jayden did pleasure, milk can, barrels, poles, and a jumping event. Her horse Tex really jumps high for the jump event. Down in the arena, there was'nt any wind and the sun came out. It made for a nice day.
