Weenie is the most gorgeous horse I have ever owned. He is beautiful and I have always loved palominos. His rich golden color, his long flowing beautiful mane, 4 white socks and a blaze, make him a looker. He is not a huge horse, more on the smaller side. He isn't super smooth to ride and has a fast pace in every gate. We have been working on collection, dropping his head and gaining control of speed in his movement. He is friendly and walks right up to you in the pen, and likes to be caught. He has crow hoped a few times but nothing in the past year. I would say his biggest flaw would be he is spooky and shy's away or bolts from scary things. He snorts at things and wont go near silly things, like a barrel in the arena or the roping dummy even if he sees it 10 times. I tried working on those things with him I even went to a clinic to get some horsemanship advice. Of course the instructor loved my horse. Jayden had the idea to take him to Oklahoma where she would put some rides on and haul him and maybe expose him to more things so as to get the spook out. After several months in Oklahoma he came back and we still had the same issues. One day while I was in the arena saddling, I had the fans running. They had been running the whole time, but they started making a quiet clicking sound. For whatever reason Weenie didn't like it and chose to pull back and run away. It was a strange response for him to pull back, but he managed to bust his lead rope. Once at Brushy Creek he pulled back and broke a halter. On another occasion when Luke and Mark where in the arena with me, I was picking up his feet, didn't do anything out of the ordinary and he decided to pull back. He did so and flipped himself over with the saddle on crushing my stirrup. When I caught him he pulled back again and nearly flipped again. At that point I started to really question this horse and my safety. If I had not moved, or been in a little different spot, I may have gotten really hurt in the situation. I didn't like it and I didn't understand it. Never have we experienced this problem.
I am left to figure out what to do with him. Jayden has been asking me for a month if she should buy him back. I just couldn't make up my mind. Jayden convinced me that he has EPM and that I should send him to her therapy trainer for treatment down in Oklahoma. I was skeptical and I thought it was a lot of money. After much convincing, we loaded him on a trailer and hauled him to Oklahoma. He spent a month there and the therapist wanted him there for 90 days. I had Jayden get him after 30 days and she took him back to Alva. I am still on the fence as to what to do, but I am discouraged. Jayden has been very helpful and willing to take him and figure him out.
