Jake and His Projects

In April, Jake acquired this little red Dodge from a neighbor for a few hundred dollars. He only had it a couple weeks and had it sold making a couple hundred dollars. He gets the biggest thrill out of it. I think he is more excited to see the new owner take it over and the excitement they have in owning it and deciding what they will do with it. Jake had a quick turnaround on his truck, which is great because that means he isn't putting too much time or money into them. He has learned how to flip trucks making a quick buck here and there.

The next truck, a Ford, was a bit of a rust bucket, but had a nice set of tires and ran really well. Jake took it here and there, but in the end it went to the salvage yard for a few hundred dollars. I think he had more fun crushing and destroying it than driving it.

The next truck Jake traded a couple old truck bed tool boxes for a truck from another neighbor. This time, Jake was helping his friend. His good friend David wanted to fix up and have a truck for himself. Jake did some minor work to the truck and asked for a few hundred dollars and helped his friend get it running. He was so excited for his friend to have his very own truck. David previously bought Grammar and Po's old Buick and has been driving it for the past year and it has been hanging on by a thread.  I love that Jake is helping his friends find vehicles too.

June- Jake isn't afraid to see an old vehicle in someone's yard, go knock on their door, and ask if they'd like to sell it. A few miles away is an old home with a few junk vehicles sitting around. Ever since Jake was in elementary he had been eyeing the guys two Pacer's. He knocked on the door and asked about them. No luck, the Pacer's weren't for sale. However the ol' brown Caprice Classic was sold to Jake for a few hundred dollars. You would think Jake got a Camaro. He was so excited about the old Grandma car. I can say that because my Grandma had a brown car that looked very similar. He drove the car for a few months. Jake's friends all loved the car. It was big, roomy, loud after he did something to the exhaust, and had great speakers. He also got a different set of rims.  He used that car to drive around on the weekends and occasionally drive to class. I thought the car would make a great rough stock rodeo rig. Just add some longhorns on the hood and find some roughie's too pay good money for it. Either that or find some boys in the hood to sell it too. Jake had fun driving around and it didn't take long for people on the road to smile and wave and know it was Jake driving.

Late September, Jake traded the Caprice to a high school kid for a truck I named the SMURF. It was a bright blue Chevy suburban that was customized into a truck. This truck was only around for 2 weeks. He liked driving it around showing it to his friends, some liked it, most did not. His "trades" often times take him to far away towns, or shady areas and sketchy people. It always makes me nervous, so we tell Jake he is never to go alone. He usually takes his friend David, who is almost double Jake's size. They always come back with stories.
The Smurf was sold for some cash and Jake was feeling pretty good. He was way ahead after this sale. If he keeps trading up, he just might end up with a good one.

Volleyball

Jake  went with Karen after school and to the field. My mom, Luke and I went to Jayden’s  Volleyball game in Coon Rapids.  They played 4 games all losses. They were not having a good serving night and that really hurt them.  Still enjoy watching them learn.

Treasures

In the morning we took 3 of our 4 cats to the vet for shots. The 4 th cat decided to wander this morning missing his appointment. On our way out, we passed a rummage sale and stopped. We got some major treasures for next to nothing. The church ladies were so fascinated with Jacob's interest in old radios and televisions. They just adored him and marked the prices way down and gave him some for free. We loaded up on kids books, got some board games, and a few other treasures. Jake ended up with a mini  television , an old radio and Polaroid camera. After lunch the boys went straight to the field. My friend Carolyn and her daughter Tabby came to ride horses. What started out to be a chilly day 45, turned out nice and sunny. We had coats on, but it was a great day to ride. We rode through our hay patch and along the waterway near the highway. It was a great way to spend the afternoon.

Dayton Fun Show

It has been cold and windy for the past week, highs of 45. Today the sun was shinning and it got up to 60. There was one final horse show for the season at the Dayton arena. We took Jayden and Jacob while Luke went with Grammer and Po and was supposed to come later. It was a fun show geared for practice and the kids. Jake did really well on Winnie, he rode in walk and trot, barrels, and poles. He did some loping. Jayden did pleasure, milk can, barrels, poles, and a jumping event. Her horse Tex really jumps high for the jump event. Down in the arena, there was'nt any wind and the sun came out. It made for a nice day.
