Easter weekend we enjoyed some amazing weather. Late in the week we hit the 70's and 80's, unfortunately the wind came with it. We had winds in the 25-30mph range. It is sure hard to enjoy sunny and 70 when you are being whipped around. Saturday was perfect, I mean the best! In Iowa I feel we only get around 25 of these perfect days. What I call perfect is temps between 70 and 80, no wind, sunshine, and no bugs .Easter was early for us on the Muench side. We all met for lunch at Karen's at noon. Our family showed up a few minutes before noon. 20/30 minutes later the rest of the families trickled in. Luke had been running the Salford in the morning and Mark was going to releave him after his lunch. He sat down at noon, ate his lunch, said hello to those that were there, then was back in the field. The food is always delicious and so much! Tim smoked an amazing brisket, there was a yummy ham, mashed potatoes and gravy, Melinda's butterhorn rolls, salads, sides, pies, and more desserts. After lunch the boys went outside and played some football while the girls played card games. In the early years, Mark and I would give the girls pony rides at Easter. They would get so excited to ride our horses. Then along came the little boys. Now we have lots of big boys. It started with just Rylie, Jake, and Luke, now we add in all the in-laws and boyfriends. It made me miss Jayden a lot. I could imagine Noah out there playing football running around and Jayden talking with the girls. I wished she were here. Mid-afternoon, Luke went back to the field and Jake went to the shop with his little Dodge project. I was going a bit crazy inside the house on such a fabulous day. I sat outside and watched the football. After that everyone moved indoors to watch home videos. I just had to get outside. I would take little breaks to go out and walk around just to feel the sunshine. Ali and Blake finally showed up at 3 after work. After the videos, it was more card games and people laying on the floor and in chairs napping. I went and took a mile long walk. Staying inside on one of these perfect days was not happening for me. Finally at 5:30 I headed home. I saddled up a horse and rode outside for the first time since fall. It was wonderful.
On Sunday morning we woke to a tradition of gathering a few eggs around the house with candies. Then we went to church and heard a great message followed by baptisms. Each Sunday you see more people without masks, today we did not wear ours. My guess around 30% weren't wearing masks. I know it is still recommended, but it is so freeing not to have a mask. There were 50 baptisms and what a joy it is to see so many devoting their lives to live for Christ. After church we had lunch at mom and Dad's, another big meal, Roast Beef, carrots, potatoes, and mixed fruits. The kids gathered some eggs, the older kids had dollar bills in their eggs! Alivia was checking the lambs and two sets of twins were born on Easter. We watched as one set started standing and trying to nurse. There was a male and female one black and one white, so cute and so tiny and wobbly. I took Luke and Alivia down to the pond to fish. After a short amount of time with no bites they decided it was more fun to skip rocks, and throw large rocks to see if they could splash one another. It was another lovely day, just a little too windy.
Even though she is many miles away, Jayden always makes sure to call and tell me what she is doing. For her Easter down in TX, there was a deer antler gathering. Instead of an Easter egg hunt, it was deer antlers and prizes for whoever found the most. They also had a big meal made over the grill.
