Filly

Jayden picked out a filly and brought her home. She told me that she was going to look for a yearling filly to start her breeding program in the future. Next thing I know, she bought herself a nice little bay, her name is Breezy. She is a yearling bay, super cute and nice built. IT will be fun to see what Jayden does with her.

April Things

We had Grandma come down and we fixed her lunch and cake for her birthday. It was nice to have some grandma time. Alivia came along too and rode dirt bikes and 4 wheelers with Luke. Luke made the cake for Grandma and she even posed for a picture wearing Jake's Pit Viper sunglasses. She also helped hay the horses, there is a first time for everything!         Cell phones have officially taken over our lives. The boys have time limits on their phones, otherwise I have no doubt they would waste away their time and day on them. These little devices have made daily life difficult. You can zone out and waste away hours. We are all guilty.  I surprised Mark with bookshelves for his birthday in December. I ordered them in November and due to the pandemic, it took until the end of April for them to arrive. In a typical year it may have taken a couple weeks. Mark has always wanted his own library, a place he could have shelves of all his books. He has an amazing office that we fixed up for

Shopping with Boys

I took the boys shopping. It sounded fun and simple, but it was neither. I wanted them to find a couple nice dressy button down shirts. Shirts they could wear for the upcoming wedding, wear for church, and nice occasions. They kept finding t-shirts and were buggy and wanted to buy random things like sunglasses and guns. It was not a fun time and I decided I will just keep buying their clothes on my own and remember not to take both boys shopping together. As we were about to leave empty handed, we had one last store and they both found a shirt, more less for fun. Jake picked a pin stripe shirt that he said reminds him of our old neighbor man and wanted it to be funny. Luke found a loud red white and blue shirt that would be fun to wear to just the right occasion. I am not sure what occasion that will be, maybe a parade? Outside the store they also wanted a photo with the Ronald Reagan statue. I so appreciated the plaque and sign. The words are so profound with such meaning and truth,

College Rodeo

Jayden's first college rodeo was a reschedule from February. The previous date Alva, OK was in the single digits. The new date for the home rodeo was held on a Tuesday and Wednesday in sunny warm weather. I would have liked to go out and watch her, however no spectators were allowed at all. I thought that was kind of ridiculous and sad. Rodeos are in a very large facility wide open with lots of space. The doors are open for livestock to move in and out. In fact if any parent tried to attempt to be present, the student would get fined. Jayden has a hard time, rotten luck or not prepared, or too distracted, take your pick. She was saddled and warming her horse up when they called her name and she missed her run. Yep! Missed her un, still had to pay her entry fee along with a fine. Well, so much for the spring home rodeo. Noah was there with Jayden and waiting to see her run, when they called her name and she wasn't running in, he was worried. Jayden said he jumped the fence and

Football

Covid took so many things away in the last year. High school seniors missed out on prom, musicals, sports, even graduation. Families missed weddings, hospital visits of  a newborn, surgeries were postponed, and some couldn't have a funeral for their loved one. Everyone missed out on major life events. Jayden's college rodeo season was all mixed around. She got to have one rodeo in the Spring, all the fall rodeos were pushed to the 2021 spring. Noah practiced football all season starting in July 2020 wearing masks for every practice. The season kept getting postponed later and later until they cancelled the whole season. They continued workouts up until the end of the school year. It's really sad his team didn't get a season, not even a scrimmage. Jayden saw him play once in September 2019, the same game we went to for Parent's weekend. Neither Noah or Jayden is certain what fall will bring. Interestingly, both Noah and Jayden will graduate in December 2021. Noah wi

Church

When walking into church today, one greater at the door had on a mask, and one did not. This was a first! To me that showed it is your choice and we support both! There are no taking sides, no judging, and no guilting. The church is not causing you to pick sides, not making you sit on one side if you wear a mask and sit on the other if you do not. We have a choice, you choose whatever you are comfortable with. I love this! I think it should have been that way from the beginning and it would have solved a lot of the problems will face for years to come. People could choose for themselves and life could go on as near normal. Today was refreshing as I looked across the church to see the freedom to choose lived out. I can't wait for the day when masks are gone, we are getting close. I heard the other day on the radio people who were starting to get back out into public are feeling so awkward, not knowing what to say, hot to act or socialize. They have been isolated so long and fearful

Vaccine Push

The pressure is on to get a vaccine! It is like peer pressure but worse. The media puts the vaccine at the forefront of every news report. There hasn't been one day in the past year that getting the COVID vaccine hasn't been the top story in the news. Ads pop up continually on your phone and internet. It is the headlines in magazines and newspapers. I get emails from my doctor, from the school, from CDC, its overwhelming. Never in my life have I seen such a push. It is psychology, or as I call it brain washing. If you put it in front of people enough eventually you will cave. I feel there is an agenda. there is more to it than just health reasons.      I really don't think it is for everyone. First of all it is still experimental! There has been no research or long term studies. Those that get the vaccine are the experiment. Those few at high risk probably should get the vaccine. The recovery rate for this vaccine is so high, it really shouldn't be treated any differen

Spring Planting Season

As Luke gets older, he helps on the farm more, some jobs he loves and others not so much. He is a hard worker and likes to be at the shop doing what he can. He is starting to do field work and really enjoys it. He got to run the Salford a few times this April and felt good about it. I like to jump in for a round now and then too.    Spring started with more than a fair share of troubles starting with the planter. The guys took it out for a test run and accidentally put the planter partially in the ditch, breaking the axle. It was an ordeal getting it out of the ditch and into the shop. It had to be chained to get it to the shop and it came undone as they were turning it into the drive. This season we have Mike helping out on occasion very part time since he has officially retired. We also have Tony, Casey, Mich, Keaton, and our boys. We have quite a team and it takes a team.      April 16 We enjoyed a week in the 70's and a couple days reached 80. Of course most of those warm days

Throwbacks

I love looking back at old pictures, especially early childhood days under the age of 10. There is just something about that time of life. It was full of innocence, sweetness, and life was simple. I love seeing photos and stirring up memories. There are so many things that you can see in a photo, the style of clothes we wore, the toys we had, the way the furniture was arranged in the house, the wall hangings and old carpet. The cars we drove, the bicycles, and pets we had tell a story. Our family members who are no longer with us, photos help hold on to the memories of them. Their smiles and hugs bring you back to that moment. My grandparents, Aunts, and cousin, who are no longer here will stay dear to my heart. Recently I acquired more photo books from my Aunt Alice's and found many more photos. I love them and will cherish them. These are just a few of my favorites.
