Happy birthday Jacob. My boy is growing into a man. I can't believe Jake turned 17. His height 5'10 and weight 150, jean size 28 waist and 36 length. With that size he wears a belt and the jeans are a little long to fit boots. He is probably a 27x34. We are proud of the fine young man Jacob has become. He is hard working, enjoys work, doesn't complain when given many odd jobs, chores, and to do lists. He never likes to leave an unfinished job and likes to work until it's completed. He washes a lot of vehicles, does animal chores, drives tractors in the field, hauls dirt with the loader and drives the dump truck. He will do just about anything he is asked without hesitation. He is a happy kid most of the time and seems to be enjoying life. He likes his classes at DMACC and taking a math class in Ogden.
At 17, Jake has a clean record, no tickets, no getting into trouble with the law, and always making it home for curfew by 11:30PM. He has made good choices and has told me on many occasions he has been invited to big parties and offered things I would cringe at. I am proud of him for his choices and being a great kid. Jake has made friends easily and likes to hang out with them. I pray that he continues and to pick good friends with good character and steer away from the peer pressures and wrong crowds. I also pray for his future wife to know and follow Jesus. It's never too soon to start praying that.
! His big birthday celebration was getting his truck the Dodge Ram. It started out with Jayden buying her first truck. She knew all along the truck would be something Jake would love. So, she traded her truck for her dad's Dodge Ram to which she would make an additional payment and it would be hers. She had been driving the Grey Dodge Ram and now it would be her very own. With that, she would do anything she wanted to it including adding a pink fuzzy steering wheel if she wanted. Not that girl, she added new tires and a lift kit. Jake has always enjoyed driving his truck and especially the dream truck. He can be heard a mile before he is seen. The other day Luke and I were in a farm store in Boone and Luke said, " I think I hear Jake's truck." We called and sure enough he had just driven by on highway 30. It is loud like a semi! Jake was in love with his truck and beyond excited to drive it to class and show his friends. He was so proud of the 94 Chevy he had been driving for the past several years, but his friends didn't seem as excited over that as they did his White Dodge. It is like every teenage boys dream truck. OK, maybe every country kid anyway. It's got some age, rust close to popping through, and high miles, but it made it home from OK and seems solid. Could we buy Jake a brand new truck off the lot, probably, but what lessons would he learn in that? Eventually Jake will make some payments and will own the truck. I am excited for Jake.
Trying to celebrate birthdays and get all the family and grandparents together can be hard. We decided to let the Wahlert side take Jake out to his most favorite place, Buffalo Wild Wing's. With a smaller number of people it worked out better. Later, I fixed dinner here along with Grandpa Po, who has a birthday 3 days after Jake. We also got Jake a few new items including a his aztec print hoodie he took a liking to, a spotlight, Cutlass Olds hoodie, and leather wallet. It was a good birthday.
