Jayden thought she felt extra tired and her throat was getting a little raw and scratchy, but she didn't make a big deal over it. On Sunday, when she was headed back to Oklahoma, she felt worse by the hour. She could tell her throat was gradually getting worse, she suspected strep throat. On Monday morning she went straight to the doctor. This is where it gets a little strange. With COVID, there are so many precautions and worries at all clinics, that you must have your temp checked at the door, answer a number of questions, such as: have you recently been out of the state, have you been around anyone who has tested positive or is showing signs of COVID, or do you your self have any of the signs/ These are questions you are asked in any medical clinic, including dentist and eye doctor? At no point during Jayden's visit did she get asked or have her temperature taken. Isn't that the first thing any doctor checks in a sick patient? The doctor took one look at her throat and declared she had strep throat. He did not do a strep test and prescribed antibiotics. Feeling tired and sick, Jayden went to class because attendance is a must. After missing two weeks, she could not afford to miss any more class. She fed horses and packed orders. After 24 hours, she was supposed to be feeling much better. Tuesday, she wasn't any better and went back to the doctor. They put her on a heavier antibiotic. She went with a couple guy friends to get hay for her horse. Sick and having them help, they blew a tire on Jayden's trailer. I said many prayers thanking God that her tire did not go while she was driving 80 down the interstate returning from home with her horses on some back roads in the middle of nowhere Kansas! I was also thankful she had the two guys along that quickly changed her tire. Wednesday she wasn't any better and went back to the doctor where they gave her a steroid shot to reduce swelling, as her tonsils were very large and patchy white. They finally did a strep test that came back negative. Thursday, feeling frustrated and not getting better, Jayden called her Iowa doctor and set up a zoom call. Her doctor was upset she was given a steroid shot, which only slows the bodies ability to fight off infection and never checking her temp. She recommended Jayden be tested for Mono. Friday she went to the doctor and they ran the test. Sure enough, come Monday the results were in, Mono it was. I wanted to take care of Jayden and I hated that she didn't even have a roommate to bring her some tea or check on her. I wished Noah could go take care of her and be there with her. He was quarantining in Texas.
All of this went on while Jayden was home alone with her new puppy. I am so glad she had her little puppy for company, entertainment, and joy. I know she was feeling very sick, down, and homesick. Who doesn't want to be home when they are sick and people can take care of you. I can tell by Jayden's flushed red face and eyes that she was so sick. She sounded terrible on the phone, her tonsils so swollen she didn't even sound like herself. Her throat was so sore. Her little puppy Sage came at the perfect time.
While back in Iowa, Jayden found her new puppy online and bought her. Lacie, her friend back in Alva was willing to take care of her until Jayden got back. She would send pictures and videos. She was only 6 weeks, adorable, and tiny with big black ears. Puppies are a ton of work, but Jayden has a lot of free time.
