Happy "Golden" Sweet Sixteen Jacob

Since it was Jacob's BIG birthday, meaning it was both his sweet sixteenth and his golden birthday 16 on November 16, I wanted to do a big party with family at Hidden Acres. Jake didn't care much for the idea, he felt he was too old for that. So... per his request, we went to Ames out to dinner. We started at Buffalo Wild Wings, Jake's favorite. Because the wait was so long, we headed on to the Tap House. One was a 2 hour wait, the other an hour. It was a big crowd, long wait, and slow service. Our large group didn't help matters either. Both grandparents, Ali and Blake, and Rylie came to celebrate. After we ate, Mark took the boys to the movie Ford versus Ferrari. The movie started at 9:30 and went until midnight. I got a ride home with Karen and Orrie. Rylie spent the weekend and the boys had some much needed cousin time. Rylie has grown up so much, he is over 6 feet tall. He has also matured and seems happy and more talkative. I think the boys really enjoyed being together. They went to bed super late and got up super early. They went out to call coyotes at 6AM. This, I know very little about. From what I understand, they have a call they blow that sounds like a screaming rabbit, and the coyotes come to the sound at the crack of dawn. The boys came back with excitement and disappointment. They had a very large all black coyote come towards them, and it came at a fast rate. Rylie shot at it as close a 15 feet away and missed. He was so bummed. He said he won't forget that for the rest of his life... the one that got away. It is very rare to see a black coyote, so he wondered if it was a dog at first. They had no doubt it was a coyote. It is also very rare in Iowa to get coyotes to even come to a call and to see a black one was really rare. The boys said it moved so quickly towards them. They were so sad it got away. They talked about that all weekend! They spent a large part of the day setting traps around the creek and different areas. Eventually they got a coon. I love that they got to spend some cousin time together.
As soon as we were able, we took Jake to get his driver's license! He was super excited and now has some freedom. He can't wait to make plans with friends and go places.

Volleyball

Jake  went with Karen after school and to the field. My mom, Luke and I went to Jayden’s  Volleyball game in Coon Rapids.  They played 4 games all losses. They were not having a good serving night and that really hurt them.  Still enjoy watching them learn.

Treasures

In the morning we took 3 of our 4 cats to the vet for shots. The 4 th cat decided to wander this morning missing his appointment. On our way out, we passed a rummage sale and stopped. We got some major treasures for next to nothing. The church ladies were so fascinated with Jacob's interest in old radios and televisions. They just adored him and marked the prices way down and gave him some for free. We loaded up on kids books, got some board games, and a few other treasures. Jake ended up with a mini  television , an old radio and Polaroid camera. After lunch the boys went straight to the field. My friend Carolyn and her daughter Tabby came to ride horses. What started out to be a chilly day 45, turned out nice and sunny. We had coats on, but it was a great day to ride. We rode through our hay patch and along the waterway near the highway. It was a great way to spend the afternoon.

Dayton Fun Show

It has been cold and windy for the past week, highs of 45. Today the sun was shinning and it got up to 60. There was one final horse show for the season at the Dayton arena. We took Jayden and Jacob while Luke went with Grammer and Po and was supposed to come later. It was a fun show geared for practice and the kids. Jake did really well on Winnie, he rode in walk and trot, barrels, and poles. He did some loping. Jayden did pleasure, milk can, barrels, poles, and a jumping event. Her horse Tex really jumps high for the jump event. Down in the arena, there was'nt any wind and the sun came out. It made for a nice day.
