Labor Day Weekend

It was an eventful Labor Day weekend with fun events and wonderful weather to enjoy. It's been great over the past several weeks! Most Labor day weekends it can be pretty hot and lately its been a lot like fall.  We went to the Dayton Championship rodeo Friday night. Jake helped work in the food stand and Luke found his buddy Joe. It was fun to see a page in the program highlighting serpentine and saw Jayden and I were in the photo.
It was a good rodeo with The One Arm Bandit, his wild horses and a zebra. His act includes him riding his horse bridleless with no hands and running his wild horses on top of his trailer. It is something else to see! Later we got to see him riding on his bridle less horse on top of his trailer going down main street in the parade.

Saturday morning we went to the ISU football game. Luke was supposed to get to go to the ISU game with a 4h group, however through email complications, he missed out on getting a ticket. I felt bad for him and was praying that maybe someone would back out last minute so he would get to go. The same thing happened last year and he didnt get to go. On Friday we got a random phone call from a Pioneer salesman who had 4 tickets for us if we wanted them. Sometimes prayers are answered in crazy ways.  It was a perfect day for weather and we found our seats high up top. The game was ISU versus UNI, which should have been a big easy win for ISU. The game was slow and uneventful for the first half. In the 4th quarter they were tied 13 to 13. Then it went into triple overtime! At the end ISU scored a touchdown and pulled out a win. I have become a Brock Purdy fan and like watching him and he is an awesome role model. He is strong in his faith and attends SALT and daily bible studies. He is the quarter back and today he saved the team, maybe even the game. During a fumble that Purdy threw, there was a dog pile of players stacking on top of what they thought was the ball, yet the ball was still flopping through hands and onto the ground when Brock took a dive and landed on the ball saving it for the team. It was so cool to see! It happened in overtime and I have no doubt that was what saved the game. It makes it that much more interesting knowing Jayden was in his house and met him personally. It was interesting watching the fans tailgate and how much they drink and how little the girls wear. It is hard to see and I know I am being a mom, but I don't like it. The boys sure got an eye full.

Sunday we went to a surprise birthday party for Blake's 30th in the evening. His mom had sandwiches and cake. We took Bridget and Andrew home with us for the night. This was the first time they stayed over and had fun with the boys. It's fun to see them interact, Jake and Luke are so funny with the kids and it's even funnier to think they are uncles! They looked into Jayden's room and were so sad to see most of her stuff was gone and wondered when Jayden would come back. They had so many questions about college and will she ever come home. It has been sad for me to see the emptiness of Jayden's room and especially to see so much of her stuff gone.
Monday I took the boys and Bridget and Andrew to the parade in Dayton. Luke went on to the rodeo with Blake, Ali, and the kids. It got pretty hot in the afternoon on the hill, Luke regretted staying and got too hot.

Jayden's weekend was spent driving to see her friend Erica in Amarillo, Texas. She drove 4 hours to see her and tagged along to a roping practice with her and the next day to a barrel race in New Mexico. Earlier in the week Jayden hauled to a barrel race in Kansas. She was in Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, and New Mexico in just  a few days. The barrel race in Kansas she ran Astro. It didn't go well at all. She has been working with Astro and getting her hopes up only to have them crushed again. This time she has decided she is done. It is time for Astro to move on. She is sad and really loved the horse, she just never could make a good run with him.
Over the weekend with Erica, she just went along and sat for 9 hours waiting with Erica for her to make a not so good run and drive an hour back to her college, West Texas A&M. They had a basic horse trailer so had to sit on the floor and bleachers in the arena all day. I don't think it was much fun for the girls.

Volleyball

Jake  went with Karen after school and to the field. My mom, Luke and I went to Jayden’s  Volleyball game in Coon Rapids.  They played 4 games all losses. They were not having a good serving night and that really hurt them.  Still enjoy watching them learn.

Treasures

In the morning we took 3 of our 4 cats to the vet for shots. The 4 th cat decided to wander this morning missing his appointment. On our way out, we passed a rummage sale and stopped. We got some major treasures for next to nothing. The church ladies were so fascinated with Jacob's interest in old radios and televisions. They just adored him and marked the prices way down and gave him some for free. We loaded up on kids books, got some board games, and a few other treasures. Jake ended up with a mini  television , an old radio and Polaroid camera. After lunch the boys went straight to the field. My friend Carolyn and her daughter Tabby came to ride horses. What started out to be a chilly day 45, turned out nice and sunny. We had coats on, but it was a great day to ride. We rode through our hay patch and along the waterway near the highway. It was a great way to spend the afternoon.

Dayton Fun Show

It has been cold and windy for the past week, highs of 45. Today the sun was shinning and it got up to 60. There was one final horse show for the season at the Dayton arena. We took Jayden and Jacob while Luke went with Grammer and Po and was supposed to come later. It was a fun show geared for practice and the kids. Jake did really well on Winnie, he rode in walk and trot, barrels, and poles. He did some loping. Jayden did pleasure, milk can, barrels, poles, and a jumping event. Her horse Tex really jumps high for the jump event. Down in the arena, there was'nt any wind and the sun came out. It made for a nice day.
