Fair Concerts

On Aug 8 Mark decided to take me to the Iowa State fair to see Zach Williams in concert. He knows how much I like him and his songs. He is great and we got to see him several years ago in Des Monies during a Life 107.1 small concert. He is a christian singer that looks like a rock and roll biker guy. He has a deep voice, which I really love. He is a song writer as well and the lyrics to his songs are just incredible! I always wonder why he isn't more popular than he is. While standing in line to buy our tickets, a lady came through and asked if we were buying two and handed us two free tickets. Wow! How awesome to be given free tickets!!
Zach Was opening up for King and Country. I knew a few of their songs but never really knew anything about them or even what they looked like. Boy were we in for a surprise. They were awesome performers, have a ton of songs I did not realize they sang. They are brother from Australia, Joel and Luke. They are fun to listen to with their strong accents. They play so many different instruments, lots of drumming, and had some awesome lights and show. My favorite was when they played the Drummer boy. Yes it is a Christmas song, but with their talent, they make that song come to life! I became an instant fan!!
We too the new Blue Ford for the first time. Mark has kept it hidden in the shop and very few people even knew we have it. Mark didn't want to make a big show out of it which I can appreciate. We got to the fair and briefly looked through the varied industry building before the concert taking some silly photos. Mark always teases that he will take a trip someday with Rick Steves. We got a photo with his cutout, Mark Person. I had my photo with the cutout of Bob Ross for Jake who is a fan.

Later in the year, King and Country asked to sing with Dolly Parton and ended up joining her and Zach Williams on stage performing for the CMA awards. They were a huge hit and since then have really taken off in the country world. Country music is a whole new crowd for them. They also performed the Drummer Boy for some televised Christmas programs and got standing ovations and the song has gone viral. It's awesome to see their name get out there in hopes that more will hear the message behind their music.
A 2020 update... They got their first grammy, thanks to Dolly. Although she was in the duet and helped give them a huge spotlight, they deserved the grammy. Dolly wasnt even there to accept the award with them, however they were through the roof excited.

Volleyball

Jake  went with Karen after school and to the field. My mom, Luke and I went to Jayden’s  Volleyball game in Coon Rapids.  They played 4 games all losses. They were not having a good serving night and that really hurt them.  Still enjoy watching them learn.

Treasures

In the morning we took 3 of our 4 cats to the vet for shots. The 4 th cat decided to wander this morning missing his appointment. On our way out, we passed a rummage sale and stopped. We got some major treasures for next to nothing. The church ladies were so fascinated with Jacob's interest in old radios and televisions. They just adored him and marked the prices way down and gave him some for free. We loaded up on kids books, got some board games, and a few other treasures. Jake ended up with a mini  television , an old radio and Polaroid camera. After lunch the boys went straight to the field. My friend Carolyn and her daughter Tabby came to ride horses. What started out to be a chilly day 45, turned out nice and sunny. We had coats on, but it was a great day to ride. We rode through our hay patch and along the waterway near the highway. It was a great way to spend the afternoon.

Dayton Fun Show

It has been cold and windy for the past week, highs of 45. Today the sun was shinning and it got up to 60. There was one final horse show for the season at the Dayton arena. We took Jayden and Jacob while Luke went with Grammer and Po and was supposed to come later. It was a fun show geared for practice and the kids. Jake did really well on Winnie, he rode in walk and trot, barrels, and poles. He did some loping. Jayden did pleasure, milk can, barrels, poles, and a jumping event. Her horse Tex really jumps high for the jump event. Down in the arena, there was'nt any wind and the sun came out. It made for a nice day.
