Labor Day Weekend

It was an eventful Labor Day weekend with fun events and wonderful weather to enjoy. It's been great over the past several weeks! Most Labor day weekends it can be pretty hot and lately its been a lot like fall.  We went to the Dayton Championship rodeo Friday night. Jake helped work in the food stand and Luke found his buddy Joe. It was fun to see a page in the program highlighting serpentine and saw Jayden and I were in the photo.  It was a good rodeo with The One Arm Bandit, his wild horses and a zebra. His act includes him riding his horse bridleless with no hands and running his wild horses on top of his trailer. It is something else to see! Later we got to see him riding on his bridle less horse on top of his trailer going down main street in the parade. Saturday morning we went to the ISU football game. Luke was supposed to get to go to the ISU game with a 4h group, however through email complications, he missed out on getting a ticket. I felt bad for him and was praying

Meals From The Heartland

I took the boys to Des Moines to vounteer in packaging Meals From the Heartland. It is something that we all enjoy doing. I always try to find others to go along and help with us, but it never seems to work out. I know the boys enjoy it and I want to instill in the the improtance of serving and giving of your time to help others. This event was held in the Hy Vee hall center with a large set up. We joined another team and worked 2 hours. We packaged a ton of meals in that time.

Luke & Leather

Luke has taken an interest in leather and started working with it. He made a few key chains and a knife pouch. He can stamp, oil, and stitch. I think it's great he is learning how to do leather. He has the patience it requires to work with it. It will be fun to see what he can do with it in time.

Homeschool

Jake started his first year at the high school in Ogden by taking classes in the afternoon. He signed up for a shop class and an Ag class. He was most excited to drive himself to class in his Chevy. He got his school permit and in November he will be 16. Jake and Luke started yet another year of homeschool. Luke a 6th grader and Jacob a sophomore. Ali started classes at ICCC in the Medical Assistant program.

Buster

Exactly one month ago we got another dog. A puppy who was already 14 weeks old, a cute little labradoodle, part golden lab, part poodle. Here is how he came into our family. I was having a conversation with Jayden about possibly looking into getting another dog and I was curious about the new breeds of goldendoddles and labradoodles. Right away she told me about a puppy out at Hidden Acres where she had worked all summer. She said Joy, who she had been working, for raises labradoodles and has one left. One lone puppy has been there all by himself. I decided to go look at him and wanted Jake to go with me. Jake was not into it at all, in fact he wanted nothing to do with it. He didnt want to go through the hurt he experienced with Rosco. He didn't want to get attached. It made me so sad to talk with Jake about it. It was so hard on him and I don't think he will let himself get that close to another animal. After 1 month I am getting attached to the little guy. It's amazin

Week 1

Jayden's first week in Alva was an eventful one. She messages me and calls me everyday. I enjoy hearing about all that she is doing and most of all hearing her voice and that things are ok. She went to church with Alex, had lunch at the church several times during the week, one of the neat ministries the church does all year long. One night she had, what they called rodeo family dinner at a girls home where one person cooked for a group and they all ate family style. Jayden started her classes, one is a wellness class with lots of football players and athletes. She has a math class that is super basic, a livestock class, speech class, and accounting. During class the rodeo rigs all park in a church parking lot so they can can fit. One night she went to a street dance for the students with Alex, She has been eating out Mexican with her roommates and friends. Jayden has been riding her horse every night at fairgrounds. She has to hook up her trailer and haul each time. Because i

Fair Concerts

On Aug 8 Mark decided to take me to the Iowa State fair to see Zach Williams in concert. He knows how much I like him and his songs. He is great and we got to see him several years ago in Des Monies during a Life 107.1 small concert. He is a christian singer that looks like a rock and roll biker guy. He has a deep voice, which I really love. He is a song writer as well and the lyrics to his songs are just incredible! I always wonder why he isn't more popular than he is. While standing in line to buy our tickets, a lady came through and asked if we were buying two and handed us two free tickets. Wow! How awesome to be given free tickets!!  Zach Was opening up for King and Country. I knew a few of their songs but never really knew anything about them or even what they looked like. Boy were we in for a surprise. They were awesome performers, have a ton of songs I did not realize they sang. They are brother from Australia, Joel and Luke. They are fun to listen to with their strong acc

OK Bound

The plan was to leave the driveway at 7AM, but because the fog was so heavy we didn't leave until 8:30. Mark and the boys got up early with us to see Jayden off. It was sweet and sad to see the boys and Mark giving Jayden bye hugs. We were all so sad when she left for college last year and we were only 30 miles away and saw here 3to4 times a week. This will be so hard on us all. Astro and Wess were the horses she chose to take with her and the trailer was loaded with 10 bales of hay and all the stuff she needed. I drove the first shift and we switched just before KC taking the horses out for a short walk. During the whole trip we only stopped for brief potty breaks and fuel ups. We ate lunch in the truck. Each time we stopped one of us would wait at the truck with the horses while the other ran to the bathroom usually while pumping fuel. It always made me so nervous and I would even worry if Jayden seemed to be taking too long. Here she is in broad daylight with her own mom and
