Oklahoma Weekend

Joker was in Oklahoma for the past 2 months,. It was supposed to be a 1 month stay but due to some setbacks he stayed longer. The poor guy had a rough time right after we dropped him off and started to colic. There were lots of factors that contributed, but the thought is worms and change in temperature. It was pretty scary and he actually had to stay at the vet a night or two. He also had an abscess in his hoof and had to take a week off.  He went by way of a shipper on the way out and I agreed to go with to pick him up. We headed out on Friday the 3rd at 6:30Am driving to Claremore OK, an 8 hour trip. We arrived with minutes to spare and Leanna was loaded ready to haul us to a barrel race. We all got in her truck when it began raining and the radar showed severe weather. Leanna drove a few miles and made a circle heading back home. She didnt think it was worth the risk of heading out in stormy weather. I thought it was a good choice. We went into Leanna's small arena and she worked with Jayden and Joker while it down poured outside. She worked with Jayden teaching her skills and pointers, she really knows her stuff. It was late when we got supper, our only meal for the day. We indulged in the amazing Billy Simm's BBQ. It was the best! We were wet, muddy, and tired when we got to our hotel to crash for the night. We wanted to swim but found the pool to be bitterly cold.
Since we didnt go to the barrel race, Leanna offered to take us to a nearby arena for some more practicing and running through barrels. She really emphasized letting Joker have a loose rein. He gets to tossing his head and acting up if she gets in his face too much, meaning pulls on the reins a lot. Sometimes Jayden can over correct or be in his mouth a little much and he gets naughty. She had a good lesson and was given much to go home and work at.
In the afternoon we had just enough time to hit a couple antique shops downtown. There were some cute stores and we had fun. Claremore is a cute little town. We managed to catch the Kentucky derby race when we got to the hotel. We then got cleaned up and headed to Tulsa to eat at the Hard Rock Casino. The casino was huge and we walked around awhile. I wanted to play blackjack, but it had been years and I really didn't know all the rules. I sat at a table with one other lady. She was nice and personable and told me she would help me out. She had stacks of chips and I could tell she was experienced. She was a black lady in her thirties with lots of make-up and quite an accent. I played with $25 total in chips. I didn't really know what I was doing, all I knew was I had to get as close to 21 without going over and I had to beat the dealer. There was so much more to it than that as I learned. My helper told me what she would do, helped me a lot or I probably would have lost it all in about 5 minutes. In the end I was $25 dollars ahead and decided to cash in. My goal was to make something and not lose it all. Jayden sat next to me at the table the whole time. I was kind of shocked, I  have been at casinos before where they won't let underage anywhere inside the door let alone next to a table. Jayden begged me to let her try a slot machine. I didn't like the idea of her being underage and breaking the law. I am supposed to be the example, the parent, the respecting authority figure. At the same time I thought what would it hurt and it would be a fun mother daughter memory, there are much worse things. Probably not the right attitude, but I let her have a try at it. She did a slot that seemed to never end, she would be up a few dollars, then down, then up and down over and over. In the end, she made a few dollars and came out ahead. We had a good time and that was the main thing.
Sunday we loaded up Joker and headed for home.

Volleyball

Jake  went with Karen after school and to the field. My mom, Luke and I went to Jayden’s  Volleyball game in Coon Rapids.  They played 4 games all losses. They were not having a good serving night and that really hurt them.  Still enjoy watching them learn.

Treasures

In the morning we took 3 of our 4 cats to the vet for shots. The 4 th cat decided to wander this morning missing his appointment. On our way out, we passed a rummage sale and stopped. We got some major treasures for next to nothing. The church ladies were so fascinated with Jacob's interest in old radios and televisions. They just adored him and marked the prices way down and gave him some for free. We loaded up on kids books, got some board games, and a few other treasures. Jake ended up with a mini  television , an old radio and Polaroid camera. After lunch the boys went straight to the field. My friend Carolyn and her daughter Tabby came to ride horses. What started out to be a chilly day 45, turned out nice and sunny. We had coats on, but it was a great day to ride. We rode through our hay patch and along the waterway near the highway. It was a great way to spend the afternoon.

Dayton Fun Show

It has been cold and windy for the past week, highs of 45. Today the sun was shinning and it got up to 60. There was one final horse show for the season at the Dayton arena. We took Jayden and Jacob while Luke went with Grammer and Po and was supposed to come later. It was a fun show geared for practice and the kids. Jake did really well on Winnie, he rode in walk and trot, barrels, and poles. He did some loping. Jayden did pleasure, milk can, barrels, poles, and a jumping event. Her horse Tex really jumps high for the jump event. Down in the arena, there was'nt any wind and the sun came out. It made for a nice day.
