2017

2017 comes to a close. We are having brutally cold temperatures in the negative digits. for the last 3 days of the year. Today it never got above negative, the lows were near -22 and the wind chills just chill me to think of them. I was still recovering from being sick so I stayed home. Mark took the kids just to get them out of the house, to play board and card games with Grammer and Po. It was much too cold to be out any farther than a few miles from home.
The highlights that come from this year in our country don't have too many positives. This was president Trumps first year in office and he was a constant in the news. He was the butt of ever joke on the nightly shows. Every little thing he said or did was blown up all over the media. It got old really fast! Trump, well you either tolerate him or hate him. He is arrogant, rude, and crude. I am not a fan of him, however he is better for our country and makes some good changes and choices, he just needs to learn to keep his comments to himself. He has created so many enemies here and around the world. There is such a divide among people, it scares me.
Storms, hurricanes, wildfires, and earthquakes. So many shootings and killings; Las Vegas, Texas church, Just today a Colorado apartment police ambush. Then there were vehicles plowing through streets running over and killing innocent bystanders. The NFL protests of kneeling while the National Anthem was played. There were plenty of demonstrations and protests, lots of racial turmoil resulting in riots. Late this fall, the "Me Too" movement became huge and many women came out and confessed to being a victim of sexual harassment and misconduct, causing many men to lose their jobs including two major news anchors. In Iowa, not one, but two separate incidences where a teen was starved to death inside her own home by her own parents. A 16 year old girl in Perry, and a 17 year old girl in West Des Moines.

It is hard to see the good in people, it is hard to find any good in all the negative. There is hope, and there is good. Unfortunately if it is church related, it will never make the news. You will never hear the stories on television or see much over social media. On a local level, I am encouraged by Cornerstone church. They have 4 church plants, one being our very own Stonebridge in Boone. This year alone, Cornerstone is branching out in their college ministry and planting churches in Minnesota, Penn state, Wisconsin, and Missouri. Now that is exciting, positive and uplifting. I love to hear more people sharing and hearing the gospel and more are growing in their faith and learning God's truth.
For 2017, I don't really have a resolution, more like self goals. I would like to be more positive and complain less. I would like to do more praising and less criticizing. I want to be a positive example for my children, and those around me. Matthew 5:16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

Volleyball

Jake  went with Karen after school and to the field. My mom, Luke and I went to Jayden’s  Volleyball game in Coon Rapids.  They played 4 games all losses. They were not having a good serving night and that really hurt them.  Still enjoy watching them learn.

Treasures

In the morning we took 3 of our 4 cats to the vet for shots. The 4 th cat decided to wander this morning missing his appointment. On our way out, we passed a rummage sale and stopped. We got some major treasures for next to nothing. The church ladies were so fascinated with Jacob's interest in old radios and televisions. They just adored him and marked the prices way down and gave him some for free. We loaded up on kids books, got some board games, and a few other treasures. Jake ended up with a mini  television , an old radio and Polaroid camera. After lunch the boys went straight to the field. My friend Carolyn and her daughter Tabby came to ride horses. What started out to be a chilly day 45, turned out nice and sunny. We had coats on, but it was a great day to ride. We rode through our hay patch and along the waterway near the highway. It was a great way to spend the afternoon.

Dayton Fun Show

It has been cold and windy for the past week, highs of 45. Today the sun was shinning and it got up to 60. There was one final horse show for the season at the Dayton arena. We took Jayden and Jacob while Luke went with Grammer and Po and was supposed to come later. It was a fun show geared for practice and the kids. Jake did really well on Winnie, he rode in walk and trot, barrels, and poles. He did some loping. Jayden did pleasure, milk can, barrels, poles, and a jumping event. Her horse Tex really jumps high for the jump event. Down in the arena, there was'nt any wind and the sun came out. It made for a nice day.
