3 Sick

I hear of families with multiple kids all getting sick at the same time. I cannot begin to imagine. My friend with 7 kids recently had the whole family ill with the stomach flu. That would be just awful. This week both Jacob and Jayden were sick. It started on Wednesday morning when Jake woke up with terrible pain in his ear. He was very uncomfortable all day. I took him to Ames in the morning and the doctor gave him antibiotics along with some steroids to treat his ongoing head cold from allergies. He has been going through a Kleenex box per day. He had a rough two days and would hold a heat bag up to his ear. Wednesday evening Jayden could tell her throat was feeling bad again. She has been fighting a throat infection since Thanksgiving. She had already been on two rounds of antibiotics. By Thursday morning she was a very sick girl. Jayden came and woke me up at 5 AM and told me she was hot and could not sleep. She got to feeling light headed and tried to make it back in her room and collapsed in the hallway. That was scary for her and me. I put cold wash cloths on her head and neck and got her up to make another trip to Ames to the doctor. She was swabbed for strep and blood drawn for mono, neither were positive, however her white blood counts were high. She was given antibiotics and sent home. She had fevers on and off all day and throughout the night. In the evening she felt sick to her stomach and threw up. Friday morning she still had a fever and neck, throat, tonsils, ears, lymph nodes were all sore. She also has had a terrible headache through all of it.Two sick kids are are not fun at all. It is so cold outside, bitterly cold that we cant go outside and we are cooped up with sickness. Ugh Friday night I started to feel it in my throat and within an hour, I was shaking like a leaf. i was so cold I crawled in bed and tried to sleep. I was sick with fever and head junk. I layed around and slept most of the next day. By evening I was much better and over the worst of it. I figured a trip to the doctor would be a waste of time. I did however develop a cough that seemed to linger.  Jayden slept most of the day in her chair and still was pretty sick for a few days.

Volleyball

Jake  went with Karen after school and to the field. My mom, Luke and I went to Jayden’s  Volleyball game in Coon Rapids.  They played 4 games all losses. They were not having a good serving night and that really hurt them.  Still enjoy watching them learn.

Treasures

In the morning we took 3 of our 4 cats to the vet for shots. The 4 th cat decided to wander this morning missing his appointment. On our way out, we passed a rummage sale and stopped. We got some major treasures for next to nothing. The church ladies were so fascinated with Jacob's interest in old radios and televisions. They just adored him and marked the prices way down and gave him some for free. We loaded up on kids books, got some board games, and a few other treasures. Jake ended up with a mini  television , an old radio and Polaroid camera. After lunch the boys went straight to the field. My friend Carolyn and her daughter Tabby came to ride horses. What started out to be a chilly day 45, turned out nice and sunny. We had coats on, but it was a great day to ride. We rode through our hay patch and along the waterway near the highway. It was a great way to spend the afternoon.

Dayton Fun Show

It has been cold and windy for the past week, highs of 45. Today the sun was shinning and it got up to 60. There was one final horse show for the season at the Dayton arena. We took Jayden and Jacob while Luke went with Grammer and Po and was supposed to come later. It was a fun show geared for practice and the kids. Jake did really well on Winnie, he rode in walk and trot, barrels, and poles. He did some loping. Jayden did pleasure, milk can, barrels, poles, and a jumping event. Her horse Tex really jumps high for the jump event. Down in the arena, there was'nt any wind and the sun came out. It made for a nice day.
