Those Winter Days

When your sister gets bored... Too many days stuck in the house, what is there to do? Jayden is always finding something even if it means doing her brothers hair. Texting by the fireplace when you're chilled or with a cat in your lap are good things to pass the winter days too. Winter horsin... .Jayden and Mark do the winter horse chores and II am the fill in person, feeding just a few times per week. Nobody enjoys chores in the winter especially in the wind. We have got to be the only people that feed the way we do, by hand with a pitch fork and a round bale. Most people feed a nice little square bale flake or better yet, turn their horses out on a big giant round bale to self feed. With the number of horses we have, currently 7, it takes a long time and a lot of muscle! It takes at least one heavy pitchfork full thrown into a feeder per horse. Jayden is learning that horses aren't all fun and games. She has to work hard and sometimes its not a lot of fun. She continually tel

Final Days in Florida

Thursday- We packed a few things and headed to the beach. We crossed the bridge to Sanibel and spent the morning roaming the beach. This beach was along the ocean unlike our resort along the harbour. There were a lot more people, lots of sea shells, pelicans, and bigger waves. The boys enjoyed catching little fish and searching for conch shells. We did find quite a few, but had to throw them back because they had mollusks in. We had our lunch at a nice fish house. In the afternoon we went back to our pool until sunset. Since we missed our Valentines date, Mark and I went out to dinner at the Marriot next door while the kids stayed in and watched a movie. On Friday morning, the boys and I went again to Sanibel for a bicycle ride. I looked up information about Sanibel back home and was interested in the bike path. That was one thing I really wanted to do on our trip. Every time I brought it up, Jayden and Mark looked at me like I was crazy. I finally asked if it was ok that I go and

Valentine's Tooth Trouble

Tuesday evening Jayden complained about her tooth bothering her and gradually feeling worse. She mentioned it when we were back home, but now it was becoming more of a problem. When she headed out on the cruise last night, she told me it was bothering her. I searched the internet and scheduled her a dentist appointment. I was hoping and praying for her that she would be ok until we got back home. Oops nobody wants to visit a dentist on vacation. In the wee hours of the night, Jayden came into our room in a lot of pain. She doubled up on pain meds and made it through. By morning she was very uncomfortable. I wanted to get her first thing and called the dentist, but noon was the earliest. It was Valentines day.  Thankfully we really didn't have anything scheduled, so we decided to go separate ways. I dropped Mark and the boys off at the Edison & Ford Museum on the way to the dentist with Jayden. We were hopeful we would be back in a couple hours, if not they were to take an Uber,

Florida Vacation

Beach Vacation... Two years in a row of warm sandy beaches with our kids. It has been wonderful. We might be spoiling our kids a little and we may have set the bar really high for someday when they want to go on vacations. We may be indulging a little, but isn't that what you do with your kids and family? Enjoy them, splurge on them, experience special times and make special memories. We love our kids and hope they will cherish these family vacations. I know I am. Last year around this same time we enjoyed Hawaii with my parents. That was pure paradise. This year, we chose to take the kids to Florida. In 2013 we took the kids to Disney. Mark and I have gone to Clearwater a couple times.  Mark loves Florida, so my Jamaica idea was out. I looked into a new location, a little farther south in hopes of warmer weather.  We chose Fort Meyers and I found a condo off the beaten path on a harbor near Santibel beach. Sunday evening we flew from Iowa, leaving behind temperatures in the te
