Labor Day Kids Horse Day

On Labor Day, we held our first horse show. I had the idea in my mind for a long time to get kids together for a horse show. We had several kids in riding lessons this summer and it sounded like fun to me. We scheduled a day when all the families could come and the lesson kids could show off for their parents. It went smooth and better than I hoped it could. It was a perfect day, not too hot or cool. The extended forecast showed 90 degrees and thunderstorms. Instead we got overcast and 77 degrees. I was glad we could have it in our outdoor arena. We had five families including our own, plus grandparents and Aunt Alice. Everyone arrived at 3:30, we saddled horses and got everyone riding. Last minute Jayden wanted Jake to ride her young horse Joker and Luke rodeo Tex. We used every horse except the yearling. We were scrambling for every last saddle, pad, and helmet we could find.   Cash age 7 and Skylar age 7 rode their own horses. Dakota age 7 rode Eagle, McKenzie age 9 rode Ace, Kayden age 12 rode Traveler, Jake rode Joker and Luke rode Tex. We did a walk/trot class, barrels, and poles. Every kid did great. They all trotted and were confident and riding well. Skylar had some trouble with her horse, only because he is a barrel horse and he was ready to run barrels and poles. She had some tears and was pretty mad at her horse, but I think she still had fun. We had hot dogs and smores. The kids ran  all over and had a blast. With all the siblings, there were quite a few kids. It think it was a hit and I am so glad we have the horses and facilities to do these things. We looked into the liablity and the insurance and it is quite frightening. We are doing our best to keep the kids safe, helmets on and be cautious.
A few days later, Jayden took Luke on a long ride through the cattle in the pasture all the way to the cow barn. Luke rodeo Tex and Jayden rode Ace. I was impressed that Luke went and he did well. He only rode one way and I picked him up from the cow barn. From there Jayden ponied Tex back. Luke walked like a bow legged cowboy when he got off and said his rear was a little sore.

Volleyball

Jake  went with Karen after school and to the field. My mom, Luke and I went to Jayden’s  Volleyball game in Coon Rapids.  They played 4 games all losses. They were not having a good serving night and that really hurt them.  Still enjoy watching them learn.

Treasures

In the morning we took 3 of our 4 cats to the vet for shots. The 4 th cat decided to wander this morning missing his appointment. On our way out, we passed a rummage sale and stopped. We got some major treasures for next to nothing. The church ladies were so fascinated with Jacob's interest in old radios and televisions. They just adored him and marked the prices way down and gave him some for free. We loaded up on kids books, got some board games, and a few other treasures. Jake ended up with a mini  television , an old radio and Polaroid camera. After lunch the boys went straight to the field. My friend Carolyn and her daughter Tabby came to ride horses. What started out to be a chilly day 45, turned out nice and sunny. We had coats on, but it was a great day to ride. We rode through our hay patch and along the waterway near the highway. It was a great way to spend the afternoon.

Dayton Fun Show

It has been cold and windy for the past week, highs of 45. Today the sun was shinning and it got up to 60. There was one final horse show for the season at the Dayton arena. We took Jayden and Jacob while Luke went with Grammer and Po and was supposed to come later. It was a fun show geared for practice and the kids. Jake did really well on Winnie, he rode in walk and trot, barrels, and poles. He did some loping. Jayden did pleasure, milk can, barrels, poles, and a jumping event. Her horse Tex really jumps high for the jump event. Down in the arena, there was'nt any wind and the sun came out. It made for a nice day.
