6/30/17 When the weeks are so busy you cant remember what you did two days ago and they all blend, its time to slow down. I don’t like to be so busy I cant keep my head straight. I keep trying to de-clutter my life, my home, my schedule, but it never seems to happen. We cut out more things this summer, yet still the days are filled. I think a big part of our busyness is our animals. With 7 horses, their injuries, and farrier needs, it seems never ending. Throw in a dozen chickens, a new kitten, plenty of cats and a couple dogs and you never have a lack of things to do. This week I took Eagle to ISU for a vet appointment and ended up injecting both his front feet in hopes that he can stay sound enough for light riding, kid lessons, and for the boys. That made 2 trips to Ames in one day. For the past 2 weeks the boys had swim lessons at 1:30 each day. That meant lunch eaten and swim trunks on and out the door by 12:30. The swim lessons are going well. Luke loves to jump off the diving board at the end of his lessons. He is learning to swim and Jacob is getting better at all the strokes. I enjoy sitting in the shade watching at Liz's peaceful backyard pool. I just love it there. Some days we went straight home after swimming, some we ran errands in town. Tuesday the boys and I stayed in town, Mark and Jayden met us, and the whole Wahlert family met for supper to celebrate my Dad’s birthday. We ate at Pepperjack grill and got to hold little Levi. After that I took Jake to his youth group bonfire until 8. They had a good time, made smores and watched some fireworks. This is the first year Iowa can legally sell ans shoot of friewaorks. The fireworks have taken over the city of Ames. They are being sold on every street corner and every supermarket and convenience store. Everyone wants to profit off them. They are being shot off all the time now too. i am not a fan.
I rode horses a few times this week. The weather was so perfect. There is nothing better than riding your horse out in the open hay field after a fresh hay cutting in the evening when it is in the 70’s. We also gave riding lessons last Monday and Wednesday to the Spencer girls and Cash. Having them back to back works pretty well. It also gets Luke on a horse, he likes to ride with Cash.

Thursday was the last 4H horse project night, the last chance to practice, last attendance point, and last chance to get the yearling to a required meeting before county fair. Jake, Jayden, Eagle, Joker, Tiny and myself, all headed to the meeting. We had big goals for the night, practice the rope gait, go over the wooden bridge, lots of riding and practicing. 40 minutes into the meeting we were in a tornado warning with lighting and storms coming. Everyone was told to leave in a hurry. So much for the big practice night. Jayden did get her yearling to cross the bridge a couple times and Jake did the gate for trail class. We were all bummed for the short practice. We made it home before getting rain. My parents got 5 inches of rain in the past 48 hours. We missed the big stuff and got ½ inch. We had two stormy nights this week and a couple last week. I guess we aren’t going to have a drought this year. Friday morning the Jones kids came, Jayden rode horses with 7 year old Dakota and Jake ran around with his new buddy C.J. He seems like such a nice boy and Luke is so happy to have a new friend, a farm kid at that!
