3/26/17 Monday and Wednesday taekwondo, Tuesday and
Thursday Luke’s soccer practice, Wednesday Jake’s youth group. Tuesday Jayden
and I made the long haul to pick up her horse from the guy who hauled Jayden’s
horse from North Dakota. We drove 3 hours each way near Dubuque. We left after
school and lunch and Jake went with. Friday Luke went to spend the weekend with
grandparents. Saturday we all went in different directions. While Luke was at
Grandparents in Williams, Mark and Jake went to a Sportmen’s retreat and Jayden
and I went to a rodeo. The Sportmen’s retreat was held over the weekend at
Hidden Acres and they had a special day on Saturday that many from our church
were attending. I was excited for them to go and read all the activities that
were planned. I had been praying that Mark would take Jake and I was so happy they were going. We
even got Troy and Rylie signed up. They had breakfast, a wild game feed, chilli
supper, workshops, chapel time, speakers, stunt trick shooters, and of course
tons of shooting courses. With High hopes, they went and it rained. The rain
affected any outdoor shooting, so Jake and Mark headed home at 2. I wished they
had waited or went back, because the rain quit and the missed most of the day.
The ate 2 meals and went to hear a trapping seminar. They really didn't get much out of it, didn't go to the main chapel session, didn't shoot, and left before the afternoon and evening activities and meal. I am just glad they got to
go and hope that they will try again next year and pray for nicer weather.
Jayden and I drove to Deep River(2 hours drive) for a family rodeo at Widmer’s.
Jayden was determined to get her first run of the year in before the IRCA horse
fair rodeo and I didn’t blame her. I just wasn’t thrilled with the idea of a
rainy day. We drove in the rain, parked in the rain, saddled in the rain and
made many trips out to the truck in the rain. Fortunately they sectioned off an
area inside the arena for horses to stand and wait so she didn't have to sit all day in the rain. It was only in the 40’s and
the rain kept everything cold and damp. It was an indoor arena, but I was chilled all day. Jayden got a little time to warm her
horse up. She ran a good barrel run, wide on the first, but kept all 3 standing
and made a good run. She also ran poles, which she had not even practiced since
last summer. He does an amazing pole pattern, so smooth, just nicked a pole and
knocked, otherwise it was pretty. It was a good day, she accomplished what she
came for and was happy with it. Not money, but that wasn’t the goal. Next on
the list , IRCA rodeo March 31.
