(10/3/16) Recently Jayden and I have been researching colleges and trying to pick a major
and some colleges to visit. Obviously Mark and I would love for her to stay
close to home at ISU or ICCC. Both have a college rodeo team and are close
enough she could have her horse nearby and a truck and trailer handy and don’t’
forget about parents to help out. Jayden has rodeo as her major and is trying to find the best
college for that. I don’t think that is how it is supposed to work.
11/7/16 Today Jayden and I attended an Experience ISU college visit. I had really hoped Mark would be able to go with us and I know he would have gotten a lot out of it. We arrived to smiling faces and volunteer students around every corner leading us to where we needed to be. The hospitality was impressive. They were so organized in getting us signed up and ready to go. We only had a few minutes to check out all the booths and went to the College of Ag booth. They were so helpful and informative. We then sat in on a session promoting ISU and listened to a panel of college students answer questions. Next they broke it down into areas of interest and we sat in on a presentation about Agribusiness. After we walked out, Jayden looked at me and said, "well I know that is one thing we can eliminate from the list of possibilities." She did not want to pursue Agribusiness. Better to know now that later. Walking on campus was just awesome. It brought back memories and everything was so pretty. The leaves were on the ground and the weather was so nice. The students were busily going to classes and we got a feel for what it is like on campus. It made me want to go and do it all over again. Next we ate lunch in the same dinning hall where I ate while living in the dorms. It was located in the Maple Willow Larch dorm area where I lived. They split the group of 200 up and ate in different locations. What are the odds that we got to eat where I ate in college? Boy has it changed! It went from cafeteria style with only a few choices, now to a food court style, help yourself to whatever you want and however much you want, good food and a neat facility that had been upgraded. Seeing all the food choices, drinks, and desserts, I was jealous! College students most certainly will not go hungry! From there we took a walking tour of campus and finished by meeting at Kildee hall in the Animal Science center. I felt right at home and walked right into the office. There are many nice additions built on and around, but the office had not changed one bit. There were only two families visiting with an adviser. Dr. Brad Skar came out and shook hands. I recognized the voice before I saw the face and knew who it was. I had him for Agronomy class and Beef class. I told him who I was and he was very excited. He was excited to have an old student and he knew the last name Muench and knew Mark. We sat with him for a long time as he went over tons of college information. He was so helpful and pointed out a lot of good points.

When the college visit was over and we were heading to
the parking garage, we saw my friend Angelia and Dan. He was in full Navy
uniform headed to a meeting. Today was Angelia’s birthday so I got to give her
a a birthday hug.
